Yep! Before it was posh. A joint Alfa Romeo OC and PCGB sprint meeting in June 1980.
I remember thinking that I was going really fast down Lavant Straight in the 914, until I was passed as though I was stopped by Paul Edwards in a 911 RSR

Great pic! It's amazing the transformation that Goodwood has gone through, yet it still manages to keep the character. Don't miss that paddock in the rain, though!

out of interest .. even back in 1980 , was the 550 classed as something special or more of a novelty ?

To those who knew, it was always something special. However, Crispin drove it to the Yeovil Festival of Transport that year, and entered it in the grand parade around the ring. The commentators had been discussing whether, for example, it was a 1934 or 1935 Hillman, because the headlamps were slightly lower and two inches closer together from one model year to another. (Maybe they went on to be DDK members...….. ) When the 550 came in, it was "Oh goodness, what have we here, some sort of Volkswagen special?" Luckily the driver and owner couldn't hear them over the noise of the exhaust, with his flying helmet on!

Cheers Mike.
Hopefully we can arrange a bit of a meet up once we get back to some normality.
