Me too, Dean Butler's 8clt Maserati also sounded amazing unsilenced. I walked over to the camping field and to hear that stuff in the valley from a bit of a distance made the hairs on the back of the neck stand up! It took me another 16 years to beat my PB set at that meeting, and i was beginning to wonder if i was too old! I always felt that the combination of open pipes and event 'atmosphere' add a bit of competitive edge.....

I just Love Shelsley Walsh to compete at, no other hill has all that magic in one small place.
Given a warm sunny day and a good full paddock, pure magic.
Add a few open-pipe cars that are special and the Job is Done. :drunken:

Having said that, I find it the most intimidating hill to do quickly. (31.58 secs)

Yes, what an utterly fabulous weekend!

I was driving on the Saturday in the wet, and finished 2nd fastest overall, and best MAC member, only beaten by Ken Sims in his ex-Will Gollop Rallycross 2300cc Turbo MG Metro 6R4. Chuffed or what???!!!

On the Sunday, Charles Wardle, the 1988 British Hillclimb Champion drove my car, and it kept more exalted company, alongside David Franklin in the beautiful Ferrari 212E, (the only car that I can remember that has silenced the Shelsley commentators for a complete run) and Martin Bolsover's roadgoing McLaren M6GT.

A whole field of fabulous cars - ERA's including R4D

Unfortunately I'm always more interested in seeing, hearing and smelling cars being raced than photographing them, but I caught a few beauties, John Pascoe in father Tommy's 356 -

and this gorgeous old thing, which Winston will doubtless describe fully for you. As we went out of the paddock on the Sunday evening, it was just sitting there, behind the hedge in the orchard in the late summer sun - beautiful!

I'm very lucky to be able to take part in such a wonderful sport.
