They were really good little bikes, so I can understand your missing it. Looks stunning.

It doesn't look too different from when I sold it in the early '90's:

Such cool cars. My dad being a Renault owner back in the 1960s and ’70s means the R8 Gordini was the Holy Grail for me.

One night the husband came by the house with a tin of emulsion and poured it all over his very dark green Silver Shadow
And left a note under the wiper saying "I enjoyed that, send me the bill"

And of course my dad didn't.

I've always thought it a particularly stylish thing to do (not the shagging another blokes wife bit)

... that’s the kind of story I love ... usually told by the old bloke sat at the bar after a few whiskeys with a proper posh English accents though

Andy, how did they drive ? I imagine not that quick ?

You have to consider that question in context James - remember it's a 1965 car with only an 1100 cc engine (albeit quite highly tuned in Gordini form).

In standard road-going trim they were faster than a 1275 Cooper S, an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint & an MGB for instance - all of which had bigger engines.

The Alpine Renault A110 adopted the whole brake/suspension/drive train straight from the Gordini ...

I bought mine as a rusty (but running) 'wreck' & completely rebuilt it as a mild competition car - grp F&R wings, deleted bumpers, plastic windows, stripped/lwt interior (with all soundproofing, rear seats, etc removed & fitted with a couple of lightweight bucket seats), all-new braking system (4-wheel disc brakes) & lowered/uprated suspension (the Gordini models had twin rear shocks each side).

I rebuilt the engine with an uprated cam, higher compression pistons & an Abarth exhaust - producing around 110 bhp

The Gordinis love to rev - 7000rpm with ease (I occasionally saw 8k 'in the heat of the moment' in mine ) & are great fun to drive ...
