I wonder when that 250 LM photo was taken, and if the car still exists?

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
The picture was taken during the 1968 Targa Florio after a steering arm had worked loose causing the car to lose control, hit a concrete post & flip over.majordad wrote:I wonder when that 250 LM photo was taken, and if the car still exists?
Chassis no. 6167
The car was due to take part at Le Mans the following month so another car was sourced - chassis no. 6053 - & the chassis section bearing the chassis no. cut out & the corresponding section of '6167' chassis welded in. The engine from the crashed car was also fitted into it.
The wreck of 6167 was sold some time later & rebuilt with a new body & chassis ...

Another angle.
Piper has now walked down to Campofelice, where he is sat drinking red wine in the shade, while dictating a telegram to send to the owner of 6053

Lanfranchi raced an Elva GT160 at Le Mans...
Which means he has something in common with DDKer Gareth Burnet, who has also raced an Elva GT160 at Le Mans
