Got to love the Pacific NW. Olympic Park? One the best parks and still on my to do list. My black car was originally a Portland car and registered IXXI.

My tacho came back from Classicautoclock last week, repaired and in fine condition. A failure of the tacho drive seal at the oil pump resulted in a rev counter full of oil and rendered ruined. Here's what was going on inside.

ImageImage

Classicautoclock are in Wroclaw, Poland. The whole process took a couple of weeks and thanks go to Waldemar Kortas, he couldn't have been more helpful. There was non of the usual shipping/handling charges normally associated with dealing with companies in the USA.

I popped the gauge back in today and all is well. I've been driving around for a couple of weeks now with the gauge end of the tacho cable wrapped up in a clear plastic bag under the dashboard to see if the new seal is sealing and so far It's been completely dry. The cunning washer trick seems to have worked.

Also applied a new pint-sized front number plate which looks a bit new.

If your instrument lights don't work :-

if the driving and side lights are working pull the wire out of the light switch terminal 58b and measure the battery voltage at the vacated terminal 58b with the side lights on.

If there is no voltage at the light switch terminal 58b and the side lights are working disconnect the battery ground and measure the resistance of the dimmer control. With the dimmer control turned fully anti clockwise the resistance from terminal 30 to terminal 58b will be infinity.

As the dimmer control is turned clock wise the resistance will go from infinity to 20 ohms......

A DIMMER SWITCH !!!!

Nobody mentioned a Dimmer switch !!

Turning the dimmer switch fully clockwise will fully illuminate the instrument lights.

I do.... I did. That's the worst bit.

Maybe this is what happens when you get just beyond the prime 356 buying age. :laughing6:
