Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
They still had several of them in reserve when I was doing my MOD apprenticeship in the early eighties. We used to get them out of storage every year and drive them around the test route at Ashchurch until our arms were hanging off.

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
Built to last.........
When did we actually start making rubbish or simply nothing at all?
Can you list of current UK HGV manufactures (not simply ‘assemblers’)?
Where are ,
Atkinson
Leyland
Foden
AEC
Dennis
ERF
Guy
Bedford
Scammel
Albion
Commer
Crossley
Austin
Dodge
Vulcan
Thornycroft
Tilling Stevens
Maudslay
Sentinel
Karrier
Thames
Sedden
now?
Every single British truck manufacturer gone to the wall. They produced quality vehicles which helped to keep the wheels of industry turning.

And not a pallet truck in sight. All vehicles hand loaded and unloaded, sheeted and un-sheeted in all weathers.
Regards
Mike

Mike..
Too many players maybe, but I would look to management first and their aptitude for a competitive world, and certainly their children who took over those players?
owners selling up, cashing in, and moving to sunny Spain with a big pension pot.

Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I can recall 10 makers on Mike's list and did drive a couple of Bedfords (OY , O, TK ) and a Ford Thames Trader.
The decline and disappearance of truck manufacture in the UK was mirrored elsewhere in UK manufactured goods so nothing unusual. Some was as a result of consolidation in a crowded market, as with Atkinson, who was purchased by Seddon to form, you have guessed it, Seddon Atkinson which was purchased by Pegaso and was finally dissolved in the1990s.
A minor correction to Mike's list: "Thames" was actually Ford which became Iveco and still exists I believe.

Facel Vega I think. The company was started by a French military aircraft maker.richkaz wrote:Clear the runway and standby for take off.

Possibly my favourite road-going Ferrari Mike - just get rid of the glossy finish on the tyre sidewalls though ...

Stunning Andy and a 'C' as well! I could just about live with the shiny tyres, not so sure about a red interior though....
cheers, Mike.

I am not a Ferrari fan but the GTB is a beautiful car and particularly attractive in that colour.
