LJK Setright (correct spelling) as noted above was one of my 'hero ' writers. Great technical, mechanical and automotive knowledge along with brilliantly crafted prose. A proper character rarely seen without his leather gloves. He even went to bed in them. (OK I made that last bit up).Image

LJK... remember being at a posh press reception when he turned up in an immaculate tailor-made suit but wearing bright lime green leather motorcycle boots. Press officers used to dread him being in attendance at car launches because he would always ask the most absurdly complex technical questions – kind of hard to answer if the car happened to be something as prosaic as a Morris Marina...

Before this tangental thread gets shut down for going off topic, how about Henry J Manney?
I've devoured most of his scribblings too. Another eccentric from a similar era. Of a different type to DSJ of course, but divertingly amusing.

Indeed - was riding an R90S when I first met him. I always tended to prefer smaller Bristols, so didn't take much notice of his preference – or that of Vic.

LJK used to have a monthly column in BIKE magazine
back in the late 70s when I had long hair and rode an
old Triumph. I wasn't intelligent enough to understand
him back then!

Glad that name, even miss-spelt  , raised some thoughts.

LJKS had such a writing skill, and me being so bad at English (and spelling) I read the passages in awe.
Wasn't he an accomplished violinist too?

I was just a spotty school lad but it was very memorable. :)

Lovely prewar Traction 11b with alleged Gestapo history. I believe the French weren’t too keen on these cars for decades because they were the Gestapo’s first choice. This is a Jersey car for total restoration.
