7.25" (184mm) Sintered Race Clutch Question

Post by Winston Teague »

Hi all, i seek some info about details of the cerametallic lined solid driven plates as fitted in 7.25" competition type clutches, by Tilton, Helix, AP etc.
I use a Quarter Master plate in my Frazer Nash, i bought a second hand 5 plate NASCAR Clutch complete on US Ebay and scavenged 2 Linings and a driven plate from it as an experiment. The principle is close to being a perfect soloution, but i'd like to try a puck type plate to give more bite at launch. The question concerns the PCD of the (8) rivets that attach the splined hub to the Quarter Master plate. I have made a special Frazer Nash to Quarter Master hub and would like to retain this if poss so do AP, Tilton, Helix etc. have the same pattern of rivets? The PCD i seek is 2.125" x 8, or 54mm x 8.
Any help much appreciated, W

Tony Towson of Super Clutch could be worth contacting, but not sure if they are still trading now.

You could do worse imho asking this question on Uphill Racers forum, a forum of techies involved in hill climbing? You may know them already.

Many moons ago I wanted to use a paddle clutch in my race Ultima. I had an ex Mangusta ZF box with a very unusual input shaft spline. I had to get 2 hubs made which I then sent to AP who fitted them to the new plates with no issues. I suggest that you ask them if they can do the same for you.

Thanks both, wise words, hadn't thought of sending them the hub! They'll be better at riveting than me too.

Hi Winston, just checked a Helix plate in the garage, the rivets on that are 56mm PCD x 8.
Sounds a good shout for AP racing - Anthony Lane in Techcraft, Warwick might be able to help.
Cheers
