914 with MOT in Chester

Post by swapped »

Owned by me since June 2006, when I purchased from a DDK member. The car was originally yellow, first registered in Nevada, USA and imported in 1981. It was the 2007 Crap Cars calendar Miss June!
I was told it was made UK-legal, resprayed and various work such as floor pan patches, was undertaken by a Lou Barrow of Chatham, Kent – also known for his Hebmuller replica build (I have no evidence for this).
I have used the car to travel to local-ish classic car shows in my area (Cholmondley, Oulton Park, Tatton Park…) and the occasional run out to Cheshire countryside cafes and pubs (Walk Mill, Cholmondley Arms…), beyond which it has mostly been used for tinkering of a weekend and of late, taking up space in the garage.
Always housed in a frost-free, dry, ventilated garage (attached to the house), with a battery conditioner attached.
Come and see it in Chester.
PMs very welcome for anything I’ve forgotten.
£10,500
Carl

Notable points:
1972 – so correct black and silver number plates, and zero road tax – has an MOT until October 6th 2018, by which time it will no longer need one, apparently!
Wolfrace five-spoke alloys – very 70’s.
Weber progressive 32/36 carb, Bosch 009 distributer with electronic ignition.
Aftermarket rev counter to fill the (un-molested) empty hole in the dash.
Starter button (key start still works).
Good:
New (refurbished) BMW front brake callipers
New seals on rear brake callipers
Replacement 19mm brake master cylinder
Replacement (lightly used) poly gearbox mounts
Replacement (new) poly engine mounts
New H4 headlights
MOMO steering wheel – leather, originally from a SAAB 99, with a removeable boss – fitted to gain spacing for the shallow dish of the steering wheel, but lets me get my long legs in and is a security feature of sorts too.
Battery isolator (removable for security)
Hydraulic boot lifts on rear boot lid
Four good Yokohama A509 195/50R15 tyres with >=4mm of thread
Steel spare with good air-tight tyre and working pneumatic windscreen jets.
Stainless steel 4-1 tubular manifold into small silencer.
Good handbrake – fully functional
Unusual front spoiler
Seats both in excellent condition
MOT to October 2018, by which time it will never need another
Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser with remote activation and door locking
Two sets of keys and alarm fobs
Less good:
Miss-matched doors – one early, one late – following an incident with the previous owner. The window glass on the replaced door (the passenger side) winds down, but won’t come back up without assistance.
Multiple metal patches and repairs to the floor pan
Milometer on the mph speedo has never worked – see MOT history for evidence.
It’s a type 4, so it has some oil leaks on the push-rod tube seals, and the exhaust does not seal perfectly
Package of spares including:
Set of 5 Continental ContiPremium Contact 195/55R15 tyres with >=4mm tread – they have a taller sidewall so the plan was they would suit the car better than the low-profile Yokohamas that are on it. One of the Continentals needs a puncture repair.
A complete (or close to complete – missing or damaged parts unknown) gearbox casing and internals, dismantled.
Pair of BMW front callipers for refurb/core exchange.
Clutch friction plate and clutch spring plate for refurb.
Selection of heater metalwork and dash controls to begin a reinstallation if desired.
Original rev counter (dismantled and non-working but complete) for refurb
Original km/h speedo
Original engine cover springs and rear boot springs
Original rear valence (cut for centre-exit exhaust)
Pair of front structs with coil springs and discs for refurb
Pair of rear struts with coil springs and discs for refurb
Original interior firewall padding for refurb
Alternator – operational condition unknown
Unused spare throttle cable
Unused spare clutch cable
Rain cover – straps and clips over the cabin on the car
Box of smaller spares including CV bolts, CV covers, 009 distributers, ignition coils, seat belts, plug leads, column switches and random other items.
