911 Backdate
I've been thinking about getting a backdated style 911 again recently and this has caught my eye
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds ... ox/7908326
Description sounds good in so far as mechanicals are concerned and I believe the seller is well regarded.
Grateful for any opinions

Re: 911 Backdate
Tasteful looks and the Jaz engine rebuild adds a lot of value.
My main question would be: "Show me the bodywork resto photos. What did you do, other than paint it?".
I'd assume it's very rusty (in the usual areas) under the shiny paint until proven otherwise.

Re: 911 Backdate
Phil Raby claimed it was sold in 24 hours, so I assume it's gone by now.

Popped up again today on Pistonheads maybe the sale fell through, will make a call tomorrow if it did fall through it makes you wonder why ?
Would be essential to clarify any bodywork restoration

Re: 911 Backdate
Looks a 'cheap' backdate .... And I don't mean the price

Re: 911 Backdate
Haven’t done the window surrounds, side repeaters, and it’s on 16 inch wheels. All sortable (but not for free!) - and it depends how far you want to go with the early look
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah

Re: 911 Backdate
personally I like the window surrounds and the bigger wheels, I prefer the steel bumper, looks a fair car for fair money, more of an omage than a backdate I suppose

Re: 911 Backdate
Main thing that jumps out at me is the mirrors, who does a backdate and leaves the flags on!
That said, assuming it's reasonably rot free, it's priced fairly given the work that has been done.

Re: 911 Backdate
Flags were the first things I took off when I started my backdate. Looks a decent starting point for something better assuming the work thus far is a good standard. But the orange wheel centres are my signature touch so you'll have to paint them over.

Hmm, think you best agree that with Clive, he's Mr Orange round here........ and no his tan is genuine before anyone asksNige wrote:But the orange wheel centres are my signature touch so you'll have to paint them over.
But back on topic, it looks a decent base to improve at your leisure, subject to a full tinworm report ofcourse
.
