Brilliant car! Can you also give some idea of running costs - in terms an electrical ignoramus can understand? Can you charge it from panels on the garage roof - or are we talking major load on your domestic system?
Charging time depends on how full the battery is and what type of charger you're connecting to. Worse case scenario is that the battery is empty and you connect to a 3 pin domestic plug = 10 hours, but most EV owners have a charging wallpod at home which should take about 7 hours to charge from empty. Motorway service stations have rapid chargers that charge up to 80% in 20mins.
Running costs from a normal home without solar is about £5.40 to do 200miles. But I've got solar so I often charge up in the day time and divert the excess solar production to my car (rather than the grid) so I'm basically charging up for free
The secret to a successful EV is that last sentence.
Manage to travel and charge to full off daytime stored solar and EV's will be unstoppable.

Could you be more specific about this? As this seems a very rosey view of charging your electric vehicle?
A standard 13A domestic plug would charge 2.3kw in around 10hours, something like a Nissan Leaf that has 24kwh battery and 84mile range. The newer 30kwh gets 155miles, but takes longer.
A Tesla model S 60 has a 210mile range and that takes 20-30 hours to charge with a 3 pin plug.
If you use a standard extension cord for over 10 hours it will cook, hence the bigger insulated cable that you get with a charger for an electric car or something drawing that amount of juice over that time.
These cars also have coolers for dealing with the heat that rapid charging, something that would either cook your batteries or your car?
I love the conversion, but this sounds like you are using man maths.
Thanks Sisu. I don't use maths (was never very good at it), just experience. I would never condone the use of an extension cable to charge up an electric car - that's just DUMB!! Anyone who has an EV and charges off a 3pin plug (which is usually never) should use the proper 3 pin to Type2 charging cable which is rated accordingly.
A Tesla Model S 85 has 85 kWh of battery, my bug has 48kWh, but is considerably lighter so still manages to go +200miles on a charge and probably why it takes nearly 1/2 the time to charge up compared to a Tesla (BTW - I don't have a Tesla so don't know how long they take to charge - I only have experience with the cars I build/own).
My batteries/car will not cook as they have cooling to cope with rapid (i.e. DC) charging. But thanks for your concern
My wife's had her 33kwh BMW i3 with range extender for a month now and charges it from our 3 pin domestic supply.
I didn't invest in a wall box as I wasn't sure if she would like the whole electric car thing and was fully prepared for it to be a very temporary gig and she'd be sharply back in something that used explosions to get around.
However, she is completely smitten, and I have to say driving it is a very pleasurable thing to do.
She charges it once or twice a week max, leaving it overnight on cheap electricity to charge and it's at full in the morning. Doing the maths it's costing us £15 - £20 a month in electricity (a welcome reduction from her previous BMW 435).
She has an app on her iPhone that tells her what stage the charging's at, and we reckon it's about 8 hours to get from about 15% to full. It has an electric range of about 110 miles, and I don't think she's used any of the petrol in the tank for the range extender at all yet (which says it would give her a further 70 miles of range).
