New Window regulator pivot pins

Post by MT »

Having been astounded at the eye-popping prices to replace these pins ($30 each at Stoddards and Sierra Madre, £32 at Roger Bray) - which inevitably are broken or severely worn, resulting in stiff or poor window movement - I have talked an old mate who is a professional toolmaker at one of the racing team parts suppliers into making me some. I needed 4, but he has made 8, so the rest are up for sale. They are made from 7075 Aircraft spec Aluminium Alloy, and can either be peened over to hold them in place (as per the originals) or drilled and tapped on the end for a M4 washer and screw. (I do the latter as it's more secure I feel). These ones are slotted for the spring parallel to the support slot. If there is enough interest then I will ask him to make more, and some perpendicular if required.

£12 each or £22 for a pair including p&p in the UK.

Mick

Last two off to the Land Down Under.

Still looking for interest in another batch. I have posted on 911S Registry as well so on the basis of any response here and there I'll advise if there'll be more available.

Thanks

Having just experienced an uninformed criticism of these on 911S Registry ('Aluminium fails too soon, don't buy these' .... to paraphrase), and just in case anyone here has the same nagging doubts......

My mate makes parts for F1 race cars out of this alloy. It is stronger than many steels ......

Google '7075 Aluminium alloy' check it out. A sample:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7075_aluminium_alloy
http://www.aircraftmaterialsuk.com/data ... /7075.html
http://www.metalsuppliersonline.com/pro ... s/7075.asp

Pisses me off when folk mouth off without due care and attention ......my mate selected this material knowing what it is required to do, and uses very expensive alloy offcuts to offer a superior product at lower costs. Oddly the critic makes them for sale himself .......out of mild steel.

Rant over .... back to the wine. Happy Mothers Day.....

All sold, but enough interest here and in the US to twist his arm to make more. Please make contact if you want to reserve any, because there won't be many and they won't be quick!

No Mike, the pivot pins are hidden in the door. They are the pivot for those pit viper springs next to the handle on manual windows (those in the pic are electric). The pic below shows the old messed up pin (they are mostly like that or worse) and the new one fitted. The ones my friend makes are properly machined and easy to fit - see my 911S thread for some installation photos if that'll help.

Now got several new pairs of pins available - same price.
All I have in my hand are those with the slot for the spring parallel to the slot in the arm, if you want those perpendicular then they'll be here in a week or so.
