JUST TESTING THE WATER: Any interested in 71T at Cost?



Well the big wedding of my oldest son is almost here, the 190SL Mercedes restoration is well under way, and a 1953 Series 1 Landie has fallen into my lap and 5 cars are just too much for the space I have available.
Something has to give, so I have decided to test the waters to seek interest from our group regarding the potential sale of 71T for what I have spent on her, which is $160,000.

KEY FACTS:
Matching numbers, Slate Grey , 1971 2.2T, 5 speed manual, Factory RHD, Sunroof Coupe, delivered new in the UK with the Luxe pack option (power windows, power sunroof and S gauges etc).

History
71T was imported from the UK in 1984 and converted into an RS clone by well known Victorian Porsche campaigner Reg Mort for use as a track /rally car.
First registered by VicRoads on December 4th 1995 on the plates DL-934, the car was equipped with one of Reg Mort’s over-bored SC Racing engines, engine number 6389085. After only a few months and after coving only 1,400 klms, the racing engine failed, and the shell and car’s original 2.2 engine were pushed to the back of Reg’s workshop where they remained untouched until auctioned off by the bank some 4 years later. .
The engineless shell was purchased by Mark McMullin and the original engine was purchased by David Jenej of Allsport 911 Porsche. Both were kept undisturbed for the next 18 years.

The shell and original engine were reunited by me and subjected to a $160,000 complete professional rebuild, and is now being offered at cost.

The car was completed and fully road licenced in WA in late October 2016.

PROFESSIONAL RESTORATION
The restoration of 71T commenced in July 2014, has been well chronicled in this forum and followed by many of our members.

INITIAL DISASSEMBLY – KTEC MOTORSPORT - PERTH PORSCE SPECIALISTS
The professional restoration commenced with a complete strip-down, undertaken by well known WA Porsche performance experts Ktec MotorSport.
The body was mounted onto a mobile dolly in preparation for a full panel off restoration while the mechanicals all remained at KTec and were restored in-house.

BODYWORK - JOHN REGALI (JD SPRAYPAINTING)
The full panel off restoration of the body was entrusted to John Regali.
The full panel-off rebuild, including locating and fitting new quarter panels to replace the 21” flared racing guards fitted by Reg Mort in 1984.
Body Work and Paint took a little over 12 months to complete.

ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, SUSPENSION AND BRAKES - KTEC MOTORSPORT
All the key mechanical restorations of the car were managed by Brendan Anesbury, Proprietor of Ktec Motorsport personally. We developed the engine specifically to be a very strong and high torque motor that took full advantage of the 5 speed transmission to delivery performance that can easily raise the hairs at the back of your neck.
Brakes were upgraded to CS callipers and discs running Redstuff ceramic brake pads.

INTERIOR
New seats supplied by Phil Lack were reupholstered in black ostrich hide leather by John’s Motor Trimmers in Welshpool. The Ostrich leather came from a supplier in Milan,Italy and provides fabulous ventilation and grip. The car is fitted with a seat-delete storage system in lieu of the traditional and near useless rear seat, however the rear seat is included, plus sufficient Ostrich hide to complete.

The car was finished and fully road licenced in WA in late October 2016.
It has covered 259 klms since the rebuild and is so fresh that there are still a few little tweaks and adjustments needed. It needs another 700 klms on the clock before going on the dyno for fully performance tuning.

TOTAL COST OF RESTORATION
I have written receipts available to a value of $152,000 and this excludes all the small local cash purchases done over the years of the restoration and reassembly.
I estimate that the total cost of the restoration (including the car) has been $160,000.

I would like to recover the $160,000 and for someone to go on and enjoy this car to its fullest.
The car is located in Perth, Western Australia.

Hundreds of images covering the entire restoration from start to finish are available.
