Why didn't you dry fit all the lamps etc before all the painting?

Where's the engine?

I had ordered the lights, etc, but they took too long to arrive, so I just had to power ahead. It would have been much better doing it before hand for sure.

The engine is still in bits and pieces. I am just trying to nail down exactly what we are doing as far as the build goes, before we get moving on it.

Good work sir! You're in that 'detail' stage - takes loads of effort to get stuff like pedal boxes and gauges and things in place, doesn't feel like you're making progress and then you step back and a truck-load has been done. Really enjoying this.

Illuminating as ever Jeff.
Remember doing all that to mine in 1989 and a few years later converting my 911T to RHD.
Had to extend EVERY dash wire by 1000mm, solder and heat shrink sleeving, and remember that bloody pedal box conversion as if it was today!

Thanks guys, it is definitely not a stage that feels like I have made a big step, but it has to be done.

I spent this week tidying up more of the wiring and connecting up the heater fan. It doesn't feel like I got a lot done, but just getting all of the dash wiring sorted is a big step.

Well this week has been interesting. I thought I would add another challenge into the mix and try to learn how to sew. I bought myself an old industrial sewing machine and my first project was to make a headliner for the car, then install it. I am pretty happy with the results, particularly as I have never used a sewing machine before.

Last weeks efforts of putting the headliner in didn't go too well in the end and half of it started coming away as I didn't ahve enough clips. So this week I gave it another go and it looks much better. Then I played with my washer bottle and shoved some seats in the car.

Your washer wiper motor really should be inside the front nose panel..down next to the battery ..if it's outside it will pick up dirt and rain and rust and fail quickly
The wires should then easily be able to connect from the fuse panel...and there should be about 2 or 3 holes at the top edge of the near side wing for the water (and fuel) pipes to pass into the trunk area, from where they distribute up to the washer jet positions...make sure you fit the washer nozzles early as they are also a bit of a pain to install

^. Just to add that the pump/motor normally attached to the washer bottle is for the headlamps. The screen washer pump on an IB car lives inside, on the front bulkhead by the battery, attached by rubber bungs.

Personally, I'd ditch that washer bottle on a hot rod. They weigh a whopping 10kg when full!

P.s. Don't forget to put a non return valve in your washer pipework.

Fantastic, thanks for that guys. What is the non-return valve for? I am thinking that I will just never fill the washer bottle (as far as keep ing weight down). I kept it more for the fact that it doesn't take up any storage room in the 'froot' which is at a premium, and also the fact that I already had it, so I didn't have to buy something else.

I guess the non return valve keeps the water primed within the washer plumbing pipe work, so there isn't a delay when you activate the stalk and want to get water instantly...
When I converted my 74 car to a 73 look I deleted all the outer wing mounted tanks and bought an early style washer bottle that you fill via the front slam panel and which also lives in the front trunk area...it has an integral moulding to clip the small windscreen washer pump onto it

Great work Jeff. I just got a small universal washer bottle off ebay and fixed it to the blower motor panel. These come with the motor, pipework and non-return valve.

I have been busy doing my research on sound deadening. I had always had the idea of smothering everything in Dynamat and call it a day. After looking into it more it seems there is more to it than that, if you actually want the cabin a nice place to be. In this episode I go into detail about how to correctly sound insulate the car.
