MFI set up

Post by agbucks »

Not entirely happy with the current set up and performance of the MFI on my '69 S. I live in south Bucks and options seem to be Tuthill or BS Motorsport. Any experience or recommendations from forum members? Thanks.

I'd go to BS he has a proper rig for setup and test. Best by phone rather than email.

There is a chap near Castle Coombe circuit that has been recommended previously for MFI set up / rolling road work. A little further but may be worth checking out.

Would be interested in hearing how you get on.

Hi
Depends what you mean by 'not entirely happy'
If you are mechanically minded you can do a lot of basis checks in other areas of the MFI and ignition system before seeking specialist help. You never know you could solve it?
I have used Nick at Redtek in Brackley.
Kind regards Ian

Running rich at tick over and low engine revs evidenced by exhaust sooty smoke. Not sure I want to start fiddling and prefer to put the issue into expert hands.

You could try Peter Tognola at Tognola Engineering in Datchet ...

You need to follow some simple steps first. It's very easy to do some of these basic adjustments yourself. Quite often the mfi pump is maligned for improper function when it is something else. The pump can only provide correct output when it gets the correct input. The mfi pump should be the very last thing you adjust in getting your engine to run nicely. These pumps are very robust and often are out of adjustment because someone has been meddling before they have checked everything else. Once you lose the basic position of the pump it's very hard to get back if you haven't got a record of what's been adjusted.

You need to get a copy (available online) of the document 'check, measure, adjust' for Bosch mfi pumps.
Read it before you do anything, even if you send your pump to someone else. It will tell you how everything interacts. You should also get a copy of Michael Burgess's MFI step by step guide available directly from him online. He will also rebuild and set up your pump if it eventually comes to that.

Good luck.

Regards
Mike

I went to Neil at BS Motorsport. He used a Bosch rig to set up the pump which was out of calibration on quite a few settings. Very happy with the work the result of which is the car now running much better. Thanks for all your help.
