COA confusion
Hello fellow DDKers, it's new member Paul here with the 66 912. Just had the COA back today which only brings me more questions, can anybody help please? I've read that they are inaccurate but i'm just plain confused. The biggest shock is that the seemingly always white car was actually black but i've not seen any evidence but to be fair there have been 5 previous owners since 1990 and possibly plenty during the previous 24 years in the states. Sorry, the question is transmission number 151651 and the type is manual, does this indicate 4 speed? I've not driven the car yet due to lack of floorpans etc! Many thanks in advance, Paul.

Re: COA confusion
Type 902/0 from 160001 to 162462 should be in 1965 912. this is a 4 speed.
What is the original paint code on the badge of the car? Can you email me a photo?
What is the knee pad like; flat from end to end or U shaped, turned up at the ends?

Re: COA confusion
Certainly that number is a little odd - is it off the COA?. Have you looked at the number on the gearbox casting (centre rib on underside)? Also, next to it is the gearbox type - three numbers and a suffix. That will help more.

Re: COA confusion
The car has a 5 speed wooden gear knob! I'm sure the plate on the LH a post has code 6604 which is ivory but need to double check as i've not been able to open door far enough as there's another project parked next to it! The car's at work so will check on Monday & report back. Now the knee pad was removed about 2 years ago and needs finding! The number is taken directly from the COA. Not checked gearbox number. The engine no 746151 is original and there's minimal end float on crank pulley, probably the only good part! Thanks for your kimd replies [AUTOMOBILE]

Re: COA confusion
Had a good look at the LH door id plate at work and once i'd bothered to clean the paint off properly as opposed to assuming, i found the correct paint code as correctly stated on the COA! 6609 black. Haven't checked the hidden areas yet. Here's a pic of the knee roll, i didn't know there was a difference. Thanks for your replies.

Re: COA confusion
So it is a black '66 model. That is the correct 'wrap-round' kneepad. The bonnet T-peice handle is of a later type. Normally for this year period it would be a round knob.
Suggest you buy Dr B Johnson's book ' The 911 & 912 Porsche - a restorers guide to authenticity' if you don't have one. It's a valuable mine of detail which is quite good in it's accuracy. Quite cheap on Amazon or e-Bay.
Interesting to see what the rest of your investigation uncovers. I wait in anticipation.

Thanks Ian, i do have a book but not sure which one it is. Next quest is to retrieve the gearbox number, it's still in the car but the engine isn't!

Re: COA confusion
It's the book l already have so it's free for you to buy. Is it best to get an original 'round knob' cable or are the new repro ones ok? The car still needs 4 wings as the rears are flared and the fronts are LWB! [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY]
