Gearbox Rebuild

Post by GonzoBard »

The five speed gearbox from my 1966 912 needs a re-build and I'm after recommendations, please, as to who to go to. I live in South Oxfordshire but I guess I can readily have the box couriered anywhere. A search on here suggested Mike Bainbridge is popular and well thought of. Who else might I consider?

Thanks

I use Cogbox for my gearbox's,they are predomimantly VW and Porsche air-cooled gear boxes. Not a recommendation, just a suggestion based on my experience. As with all aspects of these cars, you can buy pure perfection at a very high cost, or quality at a sensible price. Google them, they are based in Northolt. Another recommendation is Bears based in Birmingham.

I don't think you will go wrong with Mike. If I remember correctly most of the cost is in the parts. However, for sake of balance Chris Turner in North London is another DDKer who will do a very good job.

Many thanks guys, most helpful. In the end I have gone with Mike. For some reason I didn't of Max at Revival for the gearbox work, even though at some point I plan to take my car to him for a once over.

Cheers
