Re: '72E Sporto
I have just junked turbo rocker covers and turbo track rod ends for the sake of originality and on Neil B's advice on my 2.2S. So that, and this ad prompts me to ask why they get used and why are they considered upgrades?
As an aside this car looks lovely but purple/ tan not for me. Knowing how well Darren's goes, I'd be tempted to shrink wrap and store the working sporto and bung a manual box in.

Re: '72E Sporto
original mag covers generally warp leading to leaks. Aluminium generally more stable , but I had mine machined to ensure they were 100% flat. Still have my mag ones somewhere I thinksquirejo wrote:I have just junked turbo rocker covers and turbo track rod ends for the sake of originality and on Neil B's advice on my 2.2S. And we fit alarms/immobilsers, hydraulic chain tensioners and modern tyres. Just sensible upgrades that can be removed should one wish.

Bit of an injustice calling it purple......
Aubergine/tan is one of the classic combinations and loved by many but particularly the Italians.

Re: '72E Sporto
Aubergine/tan/Sportomatic is a great combination (although I'm not a fan of the seats currently fitted) ...

In the current climate I'm surprised this hasn't sold.

Re: '72E Sporto
Looks excellent value to me, noting that 2.4s are now at £200k based in the 2 at Paul Stephens
Obviously an E isn't an S, a sporto is not everyone's cup of tea but still!

Re: '72E Sporto
I expect it may be the colour but probably more the sporto box - the sporto 2.4S only sold at £90k at Silverstone auctions end of last year when Andy sold his rep for £140k!squirdan wrote:Looks excellent value to me, noting that 2.4s are now at £200k based in the 2 at Paul Stephens

Nice car though.

Give it another 15 years and people won't know how to drive a manual ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: '72E Sporto
It is interesting that the gearbox makes that much difference, how much (including the box) would it cost to change it to manual and stick the sporto in the attic ?
Anyway, Quick Vic reckoned the sporto was the one to have !

Re: '72E Sporto
With a sepia brown 72 sporto advertised for £100k at Avantgarde cars that's a massive price disparity
Which is the correct wonga then?!
Both 72, sporto and "interesting" colours

Re: '72E Sporto
I, for one, am commenting on the unknown. I have never driven a sporto. Maybe they are good fun, maybe they are better than we think. Perhaps we should arrange a sporto day and all get the chance, once and for all, to really get to know how one drives. Then, at least for me, I would know how to comment rather than 'assumptions' about comparisons with a manual.
Who's going to bring one to the next big Ddk tour so we can have a drive?
Regards
Mike
