I'm so sick of driving the 911 in traffic, just want some freedom and photo opportunities for some mid-week days out.

Sorry to butt in but I drove this valley yesterday



Its called The Mountain Road from Rhayader to Devil's Bridge (even the name stirs the soul ! ).

Strictly speaking it's not that brilliant a driving road - it's bumpy, narrow, lot of totally blind crests, partially sighted sheep, gravelly bits and stuff that slows you down - but not traffic (although admittedly Wales was getting ready for a game of rugby at the time).

What it does have is stunning scenery - my crappy photo doesn't do it justice - endless twists and bends, it rises to 1600 ft amsl at one point and drops most of the way back down. Some of it looks like those pics from Mars Curiosity.

It is now my preferred route for delivering a son to Aberystwyth Uni - even if it does take twice as long.
