914/6 rear callipers.

Hello. Are the 6's callipers different from 4's? Are the piston sizes different?

Hi Carl

Ive just looked at the PET and the fronts have 911 part numbers (911 351 907 00, 911 351 908 00).

The rears have 914 part numbers (914 352 901 00, 914 352 902 00) but they are are different from the standard callipers. Not sure technically what the difference on the rear sets are though.

The 914-6 piston size is 38mm

The 914-6 brake disc thickness is 10.5mm

If you are planning a 5-bolt conversion, there are various articles online. The 911 rear calipers don't have the handbrake assembly. PMB Performance do a conversion kit. As Kev suggests, you'll need different discs. If you don't go with a conversion kit, you'll need 914/6 stub axles and early 911 hubs too. Seem to remember reading that the cv joints might be different, though am sure Kev will correct me if not.

Hi Carl, I don't know if this is of any use, but I've just replaced my rear calipers for the PMB 914-6GT's from PMB. The rear calipers I took off, although are pretty standard (914) in relation to the pistons, they have been modified to accept vented discs.

Would be happy to discuss a new home for them for a nominal amount to a fellow DDK'er - if they are of use?

BTW the PMB GT rear calipers are a great bit of kit and I can recommend them. I went for them basically to max out every bit of braking capability I can get - ready for a hopeful crack at some competitions. The only issue is the retaining pins, they need to be shortened slightly so they don't catch surrounding bits, or you take off the whole caliper to change the pads!

The 914/6 calipers are a lot different from the 914/4. They use the outer casting from a 911 rear with the 38mm piston, and machine the adjuster hole. The inner is a nearly unique piece. These calipers are very similar to the Ferrari 308 caliper. These are not inexpensive calipers, nor easy to find. I have been very fortunate to obtain 3 sets. Two that PMB converted to GT spec, and one I have not restored yet. The aluminum GT set that PMB sells is very nice. The 914/6 rotors are different from the 914/4 in several ways. The 914/6 GT rotors are different again; they may still be available since I got a set a few years back.

Where can I get the little seals that go between the calliper halves? I need lots.
One of the handbrake stops as broken off. Are these a push in fit or do they screw in?
