Not overly familiar with 'Spanky' McFarland but three owners and the only car of 225 in orange:

What a peach of a car.

Spanky's 356 Carrera GS

Fairly sure I saw and, more impressively, heard that car at Heddingham a few years ago now. One of my all time favourite cars.

Very expensive, no doubt!

Tom Peades?

If it was his car it will be 550/600 K at a guess.

Makes no sense as you can get a Carrrera2 GT for same money down the road.

Very nice. I'm guessing the difference between a GS and GT (which is generally a little lighter and slightly more powerful engine) is moot when it was campaigned by Porsche?

1) An early 356 with history that isn't being sold by Lee?
2) Looks a little bit like my 356 but in nicer condition. However, for the money involved I'm pretty happy with that I have.

That is being sold by Lee (I guess this is the car to which John alludes? It's certainly in the ball park price-wise):

"The 1959 356A 1600 GT offered a further number of weight-saving and performance enhancing features over the GS, such as specially made lightweight aluminium doors, bonnet and engine lid (which were individually stamped with the last three digits from the chassis number). The engine lid also had hand-formed cold air ducts to the underside to help feed the carburettors. Lightweight aluminium doors were fitted with leather pull-straps in place of window-winders and all the side windows and rear screen were made from Plexiglass. The GT interior was kept Spartan with vinyl sill coverings, rubber mats, no rear seats and lightweight GT front seats made from aluminium. Steel/alloy wheels were fitted with larger, 60mm, GT front drum-brakes. Additionally, a larger, 80 litre fuel tank was fitted, sometimes with through-bonnet filler. The bumpers were trimmed with aluminium strips and over-riders were omitted. Body edges on the front and rear of the car were also rolled for strength and the underbody was left without underseal applied to further save weight."

That's not the car.

Suggesting Carrera 2 GT that I think is the best of all 356's
