Help needed with a speedster windscreen!!!
AAAAAAghhh!! Have just discovered that my windscreen frame is useless for my Apal speedster. After18 years service it has given up the ghost.
Can anyone help me find a replacement? Either an Apal or another. Chesil does not fit and is not the same shape as a 'real' speedster screen apparently.
Does anyone have a top screen for sale? And pillars if they are needed.
I've fitted genuine speedster screens in the past so I know the shape is the same.
Know of any cheap repro's to replace???
Help!!

Start sweet-talking the Yank for the screen as US post only... but you never know. It's well worth it at these prices

356 screen help
Hi Louis,
Bummer. Screens have ALWAYS been a problem right since the early days.
This is NOT helped by the fact that there are TWO different sizes for the ORIGINAL screen!!!! So, which "Original" screen have you got?
The old Chesil extrusion uses a squared off leg and the internal section is flat.
The original frame is more "U" shaped and the legs of the extrusion taper in slightly at the bottom. The old Sheldonhurst extrusion was an exact copy of the original, but used brass as the material and then chromed. None of this is helped by the fact that Riesner put a ridge in his design to "locate" the screen - naturally that was splashed along with the rest of the car.
ALL of the side posts [ repro ] are shaped for the "U" section frame, and until VERY recently ALL had the incorrect angle at the base. Unless this was rectified by a horseshoe wedged washer or similar - THE WINDSCREENS ARE PRONE TO CRACKING! Far better to set the side posts up slightly "loose" and rely on the centre tension rod to secure the screen.
I've got a Classic Roadsters set up for my 550 - screen and frame fit perfectly - not sure about your side posts.
I know that Chesil's new posts are excellent. maybe that's the way to go? I don't know if they'd supply the posts separately, but I understand that the new guy there [ Angus ] is much more approachable than Bailey ever was.
Hope some of that helps
