Silverstone Auctions '73 911 S £175 - £200k

An optimistic estimate, or has the '73 S market moved up another step? We'll find out soon enough.
Apparently a good restoration and it's RHD with electric windows and is that a sunroof switch I see on the dash?, but sadly not painted in its original colour (should be Sepia brown), high mileage, many owners, apparently no toolkit or jack, parts missing in engine bay, and I spotted a few rusty screw heads. Lovely looking car though!
Can't believe how many 911's there are in that sale!

I know that car. I sold it 4 years ago. It's very good indeed, but as you say, it was restored when brown was not cool so was painted Gemini.
We paid £50k and advertised it at £80k but the phone just didn't ring. Eventually the Jersey chap bought it for £65k.
4 years is a long time for Porsche values it seems...

Good grief! £65k just 4 years ago?? He looks set to make over £100k in four years..Sam wrote:I know that car. I sold it 4 years ago. It's very good indeed, but as you say, it was restored when brown was not cool so was painted Gemini.

It will be interesting to see what this achieves. All I know is rhd 2.4s's are ultra rare, and everyone who owns one thinks they are undervalued! Silly I know when you think where they were 5 years ago, but the 2.4s is one of the best pre impact bumper Porsches, many say it drives better than the 2.7 rs, and we all know what they are worth!

Just because people have been 'sucked into' paying unbelievably high prices doesn't mean the cars are 'worth' it ...

One of the most sensible statements about the state of the early Porsche market I've seen recently.Lightweight_911 wrote:Just because people have been 'sucked into' paying unbelievably high prices doesn't mean the cars are 'worth' it ...

Re: Silverstone Auctions '73 911 S £175 - £200k
There has been lots of hype in the market this spring - but I've noticed that lots of cars are now not selling - especially at some of the specialist dealers.
I suspect that many cars are overpriced and most buyers are too savvy. I don't think we'll see a price crash, but there's room for a notable correction.
The very best cars with all the right credentials should still be sought after, but hopefully common sense will prevail.
Auction prices are normally a good indication - although it only takes two bidders with more money than sense to distort things.

Is a 250 swb dancing donkey worth it's money ?Lightweight_911 wrote:Just because people have been 'sucked into' paying unbelievably high prices doesn't mean the cars are 'worth' it ...
Or a shitty flat in London for the same money as a farm in Scotland ?
All supply and demand at the end of the day
Ironically, I have difficulty seeing £200k in any classic car ,,,,, same seeing a new range rover at £105k or the cayman on the Porsche stand at clm for £70+ k ( they had a new 991 turbo at I think 200k euros !!!)
There you go, for a fun car what would you rather have, a 991 turbo or a nice 2.4S
All car prices are daft these days

I agree James. I was recently looking for a new town car and could barely beliueve I was supposed to pay circa 20k+ for a decent well specced littleun.
re this car.
I think it looks chuffing lovely, if the description is accurate would appear to have good lineage and history and the guide price is nothing new. We have already seen transactions in this price range.

Re: Silverstone Auctions '73 911 S £175 - £200k
Some new cars are starting to look quite good value. Just spent £30k on a brand new M135i with all the options. Faster than a 993, lovely to drive and with a peach of an engine. I know it's no classic but it's a lot if fun for a fraction of the price....

Fixed that for youPhilipB wrote:Just spent £30k on a brand new M135i with all the options. Depreciates faster than a 993, lovely to drive and with a peach of an engine.
I can't talk, my M5 cost 72K in January. Give it 18 months and I'd be lucky to get a straight swap for a new 135i. But my 993 is definitely not depreciating.
Cheers, Richard.
