Winter Tyres

Post by Darren65 »

I plan to fit some winter tyres to a set of Cooke Cutter 15 x 6's…....assuming best to stick to 185/70 x 15?

Can anyone recommend a suitable tyre in this size...….does such a thing exist?

I appreciate all feedback.

Cheers,

Get 195/65-15 instead, I would be surprised if you can get winters in 185/70.

Available in more types than you can shake a stick at and near as damn it the same size.

I've got exactly that... a set of winter tyres on cookies in the garage, but it's raining like something out of the Bible outside, so will post tomorrow...

Seem to remember Nick Moss being keen on Hankook winter tyres on his 3.2, but different size of course. He'll be along shortly...

Thank you chaps….if I have to go 195/65, is there anything that 'looks' classic?

A quick search and all look a bit modern :?

Know what you mean. Haven't found you anything but googled winter rally tyres and found this thread on 1972 Rally tires...

If you are putting winter tyres on Darren it is for safety first...not their classic looks!

Just get a set that really work.

Mind you bought some for the missus car in November and still not fitted yet...it never gets below 6deg so far so no point...

I have 185/70 x 15 Hankook Winter Icepts. I've had them on 2 911s. They are, IMO, fantastic tyres and great value. I have had a set on my Freelander for a year, so they can do year round work, although they might be a bit scary on a 911 in warmer weather as the tread starts to move around a bit

I'm using a set of Continental WinterContacts on my Golf. They're excellent in snow, ice, heavy rain and cold slimy winter roads. Like most winter tyres the tread is 'old fashioned' anyway with small blocks. Cheap in a 195/65 15 size too: http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop. ... eugart=PKW

He's a soft southerner. He just means its a little chilly and has had to revert to wearing a long sleeve pullover.

Thanks Nick, can you recommend a supplier?

Walking down a London street on Friday evening I received an email which which directed me to a PM from Mike (DarthMJH) letting me know about a set of Cookie Cutters on eBay with a buy it now price...a quick look at the photos (4G in London! ) and they were purchased in about 30 strides!......don't you just love DDK! Thanks Mike

Collected today and looking pretty good (if you like that sort of thing)....

Image

....best bit is the December 1972 date stamp which matches my build date EXACTLY! 8) ....wonder if they're my original wheels!

Image

The winter tyre thought is my justification for having a second set of wheels, the essence is I just want to see my car on Cookie Cutters!.....the reality is the car won't see an awful lot of bad weather use although would love to try it out on snow!

Thanks for all the feedback.

Cheers,
