Engine rebuild spec of my 1970 2.2 911T..does it make sense?

Post by Roygarth »

Its a LHD USA car and work was done in US. The first UK owner was given the following information about the engine rebuild:

Built to 2.4 spec with original 2.2 cases keeping it matching numbers
2.7 orig polished and balanced crank
6 rod bushings and bearings
Main bearing
JE forged 84mm 9.5 to 1 pistones
'S' aluminium barrels, honed orig
Timing chains and gears
Engine cases line bored and time cert
Oil pump
6 rebuilt cylinder heads
Standard ports
Inlet & exhaust valves and springs
911 grind cams
Rebuilt Zenith carbs on standard jets
Rebuilt Bosch distributor

I was wondering if the above list/spec make sense in terms of what one would do when re-building such an engine?

Car is very fast for a T, the specialist who recently serviced the car reckoned it was pushing out in excess of 180bhp. Since then I found the above list.

Thanks
Piers

Sounds fine - basically it's now a high compression Euro 2.4T

Sounds like a nice motor. Crack on and enjoy it when the weather gets better. The trouble with winter , as far as we find in our house is there's too much time to "sweat the small stuff".

What does a 993 Vario engine need to fit?

Tinware adapted and Power Steering blanked, any other dramas?

Lots of electrical loom work, and it's a very heavy engine apparently.

I have looked at it as an option, but am looking for a 2.2T motor instead...

Not so - some comparisons done on impact bumpers. Same sort of weight as SC or 3.2 Carrera engine, once you've ditched the air con gubbins
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah
