I've also got personal memories of this car. On my first ever trip to the festival of speed in my newly acquired 64 Mk II jag I pulled into a petrol station to top up. This SWB was already in there (I recognised it as having been used in insurance adverts around that time). I filled up as fast as I could and shot down the dual carriageway knowing the fezza would be coming soon.
It shot up behind me and I pulled over waving him past and got an appreciative wave back. I pulled out behind it and floored the jag trying to keep up. A lorry pulled out on me soon after and I cacked my pants try to haul up the old jag with pads the size of a 50 pence piece (just managed it).
The next time I saw the SWB was a few hours later from behind a barrier and Stirling moss was standing next to it. I loved the car and the incident made the goodwood FOS a magical event from then on
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young but I'm just backdated yeah
This 250 GT Bertlinetta is actually the second car of Rob Walker, raced by Stirling Moss, s/n 2735 GT from 1961. The story about Stirling listening to the radio during the TT race was the year before when he raced the first of the 250 GT Berlinettas, s/n 2119 GT (1960) which has the number plate 7 SPA and indeed belonged to Paul Vestey.
The car pictured here (1 SWB) is the Clive Beecham car.
Apart from the chassis number (not visible) and the registration plate you can keep them apart by looking at the top frame of the door. The 1961 Berlinetta is nearly straight where as on the 1960 Berlinetta the window frame was curved at the back.
My all time favourite Ferrari, particularly in competition form.
Hi All
