O/T Audi Xenon headlight aim adjustment

Post by jury »

Thought I would throw this one out to the DDK knowledge bank.

Anyone ever adjusted Audi Xenon headlights ? We have a 2013 Q7 and are driving back to the UK tomorrow, and thought we would do the honourable thing and prevent blinding on-coming traffic. I spent the morning on Google trying to find out how to adjust the headlights, but I am still abit stumped! Apparently you can do it from inside the car using the dash display, or adjust a lever on the back of the headlight unit, but can't find anything. A trip to the local dealer said it should be done by computer, but they couldn't answer how I am supposed to drive through Germany and Holland with the Headlights setup for UK driving

Headlights look like this:

I am guessing one of these screws adjusts Up and Down, the other Left and Right:

What about if I just turn one of these screws ?

Failing this, I will try to buy some deflector stickers on the Ferry and see if I can fit them roadside in Hull.

Any ideas ?

Cheers
Chris

You shouldn't need to touch the screws. The Q7 MMI maybe different to my '13 S4 but it should be something like this:

On the MMI press the 'car' button

This will get you to:

Then 'vehicle settings'

Image

Then 'exterior lighting'

Image

Then 'converter'

Image

Change to 'on' should put your car in RHD.

Even my wife's Yeti can switch its lights via the MMI so your Q7 should be fine :)

Hope this helps

Thanks Gary, I was hoping an Audi man would chime in

Thats what I assumed, but my MMI system only has these options for Exterior Lighting :?

It might be through the display in the centre of the instruments which you access via the steering wheel controls. This is how the Yeti does it.

I guess finding a UK dealer once you are across the water is the only option other than black stickers.

It's frustrating on a car with a changeover system built in that the customer can't get to!

Before you shout at someone. There may be a simpler answer......

The reason you don't have the ability to switch in your Q7/A8 lights when a Yeti/a4 has a switch for it.
If you have the better version of the SatNav MMI with built in GPS it will know you are in a different country it will automatically adjust it for you.
It also does this for open road sections with the GPS as well to give you a better view of the road. Like the old Citroen DS headlights that were linked to the steering, except it uses the GPS rather than turning on one front fog light when the indicator is switched on a VW golf/A4 etc.

In the UK they may have a 'package' such as media/comfort/lighting S-line/SE etc
but this a visual demonstration of what it does on the A8/Q7/S7 etc.

There is also high beam assist as well that is a pod behind your mirror. This uses radar and a camera to adjust the highbeam for you.Image

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. At this stage I think I will see what Stickers are available on the Ferry and then try to get the sytem sorted when we get back.

There was an issue with the Rear lights when we got the car, it didn't recognise that the boot was shut and so only the bumper lights worked ! 2 Light control modules later...a plastic shim was added to the boot lock to raise the closing plate afew mm, and problem solved

Hope the winds in the North Sea have died down by tomorrow evening

My A5 Quattro has Xenon Lights that auto adjust when cornering, but the MMI option to convert to Continental / UK is sonly accessible by the Audi Dealer - mad ! I know you can get to it if you buy the Laptop Software and interface cable that allows you to get to quite a few features.

No help right now I know, and when we went to Belgium in the Summer we figured on not needing lights in mid summer - I also believe you cannot use reflectors on Xenons ???

If you can't find a setting to switch the headlights to RHD (I'd suggest you don't just start turning screws on the back of the lamp unit!) then you'll need this style of beam converter for xenon headlights...

Image

I've used them a couple of times on my BMW when we've been skiing in Europe. They're cheap and easy to fit and they do quite a good job.
