Should i stick with the origianl colour?

Post by 210bhp »

Excellent decision. It is such an evocative colour of the period and the early 911 shape looks fabulous in it.

There are so many slate grey cars about now (most mon original colour) and very very few burgundy. Against the brightwork it looks stunning and has real depth when polished and waxed up.

Regards
Mike

Hi Jeff, hope your back gets better soon!
Having seen your car and the fact that it is matching numbers and going to be original, a real rust free cracker, you have made the right decision mate.

I had missed the fact it was originally burgundy

That would clinch it for me, original colour as nice as Slate Grey is they are all a bit Steve McQueen now? (that 68S though really is nice.....)

Painted deeply that burgundy will stand out in the sea of silver/white/grey cars. :bom:

I had a twisted pelvis in my early 20's through working on a farm as a student.
Took 6 months of a good Osteopath to sort it which she did. If i get very stressed it returns as a right pain in the arrssss. Then it goes as my attitude changes.

I have learnt to be very careful lifting pushing etc. since.

I know how it can grind you down. It is as much a state of mind/attitude to get a good repair and the actions of a good specialist.

I wish you luck for the X Rays and progress asap.
I'm 61 now and still pop 911 engines out in 2.5 hours, but I'm starting to slow down!

When they are poking and probing think of a glamorous, shinning burgundy 911 warming up for a sizzling blatt down your favorite lanes! :bounce: :drunken:

Faced with the same dilema over the past year or so ( mine was Sepia Brown, a previous owner painted it Guards Red in 1983 and I painted it Blut Orange in 1994 I eventually got to decide on my colour. I picked the one I wanted, as said above, I'll be keeping it for at least 10 years ( I have it 25 thus far ).

Not slate, a one off mix

Burgundy is the way to go!
My 911 Targa that is waiting in the wings for a resto was originally burgundy and will also go back to that colour when I finally get a chance to start on it.... it is a very rich colour and contrasts well with the chrome and fuchs. And as the other lads already said, will stand out in a line up....
Saying that... I do like slate grey too! :)

Stick with Burgundy. Slate Grey's a bit passé.

My '68 is at the paint shop now and is going back to its original 6808 Burgundy (from the Guards Red it was saddled with in California in the 90's apparently). There are always second thoughts, but logic is often best.

Hi Jeff, I seem to have a few things in common with you - I have a 911T which has just been restored and resprayed and history of back pain which some years ago necessitated a couple of months in hospital and a month in a wheelchair ( hope you're not as bad as this)

Additionally my car's just been resprayed ............................... Slate grey ! It was originally Silver but I like Slate Grey with Houndstooth check interior so that's what I've got - do what YOU want.

When I was unable to walk and in hospital some years ago it taught me a great lesson that we don't value what we've got ( health) until we don't have it and also to live your life doing what you want to do while you're able to.

I've had loads of cars that were matching numbers and totally original in the same way I suppose I used to be matching numbers and totally original - now neither me or my cars are matching numbers or totally original - the stent in my chest from another accident and the fractured sternum from a crash in a previous RS are testament to that ! I think both me and my cars are better being non original and probably worth more ( in lots of different ways) because of that !

Life's too short - do what YOU want !

Good luck with both your health and your car. Hope all goes well.

Best Wishes

Steve

Yes nicely put indeed Steve.
I have a long history of back pain and this time it really has taken it's toll on me, when i woke up every day i often thought how long have until i'm completely immobile and now i know, i have always had an ache since i was i teenager but i did a foolish this about a year ago, it was painful but as i've been working it's gradually getting worse until it's reached a point where i can even lift my 2 year old boy or barely walk.
I am hoping for a recovery at some point but sooner than later would be ideal, however i am worried that if i don't get better soon i may have to forfeit my 911t project.

Time will tell i guess.

Regards

Jeff
