Is this a scam ?

Post by majordad »

I posted looking for a set of 2.4S Pistons a few weeks back on another website. Got a reply from jdox ( he s in the UK ) saying he had a set for sale and he emailed me a photo . ( His email is timothylivisting85@gmail.com) . The photo is the exact same photo on a Swiss Dealers site, except the pistons are less than half the price with Jdox. In my emails to jdox he wants to be paid by western union as he s having problems with his paypal account which has been deactivated. As a test I told him I would collect the items from him in person and I wanted to pay cash. His replies said he's not often home and could not be sure he would be home when I call. I see he has been a member here since Nov 2011 and has zero posts. Has anyone else had dealings or PM s from him ?

Mods feel free to move/delete this if I've inadvertantly broken a rule.

Hi

It does sound like a scam, if it were me selling an expensive item then I would be a little more accommodating.
I think when buying expensive items you might be best using well known and regarded traders or members of the forum.

Buy cheep, buy twice.

Kind regards.

I'd ask for forms of ID showing home address.
Additional pictures of the items - request angles etc.
Seems a bit fishy from what you've said.

I'll bet he says his address is in Lancs - probably Blackpool ...

If you've posted a wanted ad somewhere like Pelican & included your email address then this is definitely a scam - well known (I've I've warned people on Pelican several times).

scam all day long i'd say.

it's very easy to set up another paypal account to accept funds but western union offers zero protection to the buyer.

you don't want the pistons bad enough to blow 50% on nothing.

I'm with Barry - as soon as someone mentions Western Union, I walk. No-one except scammers uses WU.

Not strictly true. A very friendly guy in Nigeria approached me recently and he's got £10 million he'd like to give me. All he wants is me to give him £5000 to process my inheritance and he asked if I'd pay that through WU and he's not a scammer he's such a nice man

I had a scammer from Nigeria called Capt Sabestien, he wanted to buy a car, so he deposited £500 to my wife'spaypal(she who controls pursestrings ).
the usual story in the forces serving his country no time sh1t, I smelt a rat and reported him to Paypal and they dealt with it from there on.

I had a scamming email once from a bloke who claimed he was a hit man who had been hired to kill me (i've no idea who i had upset!) and that if paid him £20k he wouldn't do the job, but if i didn't he would go ahead with the contract. Oh, and if i told the police he would also kill me and he'd know because he was watching me and had tapped my phone.

Good job i'm not the paranoid sort

Scam. Didn't Andy Mallagh have a set of 2.4S B&P's for sale recently?

I seem to one of those calls every other day....
I've never (knowingly!) had PPI.
A bit of research suggests that these 'claims' people take 25% of whatever is refunded, whereas in fact you can do it yourself for zilch.
My latest ploy is to egg them on a bit, then suggest they pay me £1000 for the info they want before I go any further - they soon lose interest then!
