The 'other' Signal Orange car (with the glass sunroof) was Eddie Day's 2.2T:

Re: 1970 E sporto in orange
Signal Yellow DDK cars. Helen's was a 2.2T Sporto, now owned by a fellow in Nottingham, interior by Southbound, lots more work done by me. Eddie Day's was a 2.4T manual with a 2.4E motor and a large glass sunroof
I don't know the car under discussion, but I do know Chelsea Cars.

Out of interest, Chelsea Cars, say nothing or good people?
Nice gold car but terrible adver and web site.
Always good to gauge views on retailers.

Mmmm...I won't say too much!!! We went down last year to look at a 1972 911t, big waste of time. I didn't get to drive the car as the brakes were "nipping" and he didn't feel it was safe for me?? The paint work was horrendous even to my untrained eye, funnily enough his other four 911's were all painted silver (must have got a job lot of paint). The car unfortunately only had history going back to 2009, surprise, surprise. Thankfully the weather was great and had a nice day in the city.

Yes nice gold 's' if you ignore the 2.4t, non matching engine, the repro seats etc ( although he says he has the original interior.
I was round there earlier and had a preliminary look at the orange car. I have not felt compelled to immediately snap it up but will have a closer look tomorrow.
The car was being 'inspected' for a potential buyer when I popped in.

Re: 1970 E sporto in orange
I had pictures sent, and there is no VIN plate on the front trunk area, although chassis number was supplied
Looks to be 9110200366 in the picture, and an engine number of 820821.
Was told you can get another VIN plate through AFN if I was particular about needing one on it???

Re: 1970 E sporto in orange
The positives:
This is a uk original, AfN supplied, RHD car with 6 owners and a mileage that could be correct at 46k but with no verifiable history from new- mots supplied from '86 and about 34k miles. It is matching numbers and appears to have a fit engine and drivetrain. The sporto gearbox had a £4.5k bill from Jzm in 2008 since when it has done 2 k miles. The engine was 'rebuilt' as part f the restoration in '03 using second hand barrels and pistons but certainly starts, runs and pulls well.
The negatives:
No one is misrepresenting this car, but to my mind the 'restoration' which was carried out 10 yrs ago (since when it has seen only very light use/ mileage) was more a cosmetic restoration than the sort you see documented on this forum. So- no panels were replaced, but, exterior sills and offside front wing were replaced in 1983. The body was rubbed back to bare metal and some 'making good' done before covering the whole thing in filler and rubbing back.
And this is now coming to haunt the car- it looks good at a distance or a glance but in numerous places the paint has split (I am no expert but I assume water ingress/ damp between metal and filler). The hrs door has bubbling.
More difficult to see is the oily side, given its covered in a lovely layer of underseal, some of it recently re sprayed. There are several obvious problem areas including round the sill / jacking points and the rear suspension swing arm mounts. Old welding, bodges and a massive dent on the rhs rear underside where it has hit something. Oh and one of the suspension swing arm mounts has 3 not 4 bolts, looks like one has sheared.
The front slam panel is poorly welded/ repaired. There is evidence f rust in any of the sal places, but rear seat pans look fine as does screen surround, bulkhead etc.
The car sits wrong- low at the rear and high at the front.
It does drive fine, straight, starts and stops fine apart from a heart stopping moment in Wandsworth one way system when it lost drive, but to be fair I think that was 'user error'
So my non expert summary, but having spent quite a while on my knees and poking in the corners is that the car would be fine to drive away and enjoy. But really, as is common, I suspect it needs a complete restoration at the hands of someone proper. The owner is looking for the car to return 30k to him and the asking price is 39k.
So in my mind- is a 2.2e sports that probably needs 10-30k throwing at it (depending on the condition you want) stack up at a purchase price in the 30's? With Paul Stephens now asking 65k for his restored yellow manual car, I don't think so - no incentive for me to ake this on. And the sporto is not hugely appealing. I'd rather buy a week and do a full resto or buy a solid car.
The dealer is jack of all trades master of none. And he has taken a deposit for the car by a guy who had it 'inspected' (some of which I witnessed. Frightening) so that's the end of that!
