'73 911S Cold start mechanism

Many cars seem no longer to have this system.

It is available both secondhand and new from Porsche Classic.

Who would fit it ?

Who would not ?

And why ?

Thanks :)

Which system are you referring to ?

The thermostatic discs heated from the exhaust? Most still have this

The direct fuel enrichment into the stacks ? Most still have this too

The air cleaner flapper box ? A lot remove this

Mine is in storage. Ran the car for years with it, and have run for a few years without. Made no difference to starting, running, warming up etc.

Whenever I ve had my engine dyno'd, it's without the air box fitted, so I lie to run with as few extra intake restrictions as possible.

My 2.4E did not have the thermostatically controlled feed to the air cleaner fitted when I bought the car, I notice that the fuel consumption is worse in cold weather, is that why?

Thanks for the feedback --- I think there is also the issue that they may not do the job intended where a stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted --

But, for correctness, should the mechanism still be there ?

Again, it is currently available --- it may not always be ---

Or is this a vanity question ?
