Where to buy PMOs

Post by shoestring7 »

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy a set of PMO 40mm carbs plus fittings kit?

Does anyone offer a discount for DDK members?

The best place is directly from PMO, http://www.pmocarb.com/

Charles,

As Nick says give Richard Parr a call at PMO. He was a gent to deal with when I got mine, and is very helpful in deciding exactly what you need.

Cheers chaps. I'm still finalising the spec. of an engine build, but I do know I want to bin the pesky CIS and will probably stick some old school carbs on (even if they do smell of wee).

Can anyone running PMOs comment on how they are in service? Cold/hot starts, response, fuel consumption, reliability etc?

I wouldn't rule out a good pair of Webers either ...

PMO:
Easy to tune using DIY tools. Jets are from the weber DCOE series so dead easy/cheap to get.
Tech back-up is outstanding (personal experience).

Expensive, but when you get them you will see why. Read all the google stuff on them.

I had small webers on my 3.2 for a while and ran ok, but wear and tear can be a real issue to fix DIY.

They are not the real deal, but are the match of the webers imho as you can sort them out and they are very servicable.

Cold start as tricky as the webers, hot start instant etc but this is down to set-up of either system I feel.

Personally I would go for throttle bodies, mine are PMOs and look very like their carbs to the uneducated. They don't smell of wee and, with the correct tuning of an ECU, are superbly smooth, responsive, and start hot or cold on the button every time without pumping.

I recently imported a set of 40mm PMOs direct from Richard to stick on my rebuilt T's engine.

They run really well, starting is fine when warmed up, but takes a bit of pumping when cold (I think there's a knack I haven't quite got yet).

Fuel consumption is great - they consume lots of fuel without any problems at all - I'm generally lucky to get about 19mpg from my T.

Reliability I can't really comment on yet, but I can't see the carbs being any trouble as they're really nicely engineered.

Highly recommended!

Cheers, Ross.

If I had my time again I would go with the PMO ITB, especially if i had the money to have the carb v ITB decision to make.

Looking to DIY ITB and Megasquirt for some tech fun.

Nick,

Are you running an Emerald ECU? How does the cost of the system compare with PMO carbs?
