Are you sure, Dan? I haven't seen it since I was a kid.
Apparently you can stay in the hotel where he did during filming (it features quite heavily in the film itself). Can you tell I was up late last night looking into this stuff?
Ordered this today (the story of the guy left hanging by his rope mentioned before as told by the guy left hanging from his rope in Touching the Void)):
Although we couldn't bring ourselves to spend almost £160 per couple ( from memory ) to go up the Eiger ... so we went up the other one near by , the schilthorn for a bit of James Bond play acting ..
As you can see , the views can be hit or miss depending on the weather
Re the Furkha Pass - we tried that (when I did my first trip in the 911) but it was closed unfortunately. It's worth checking before you go which Passes are open as (I seem to recall) they schedule some of the closures.

Thanks Dan, by coincidence I ordered this at the same time as the dvds so I'll prepare to be terrified.
Gary, James & Simon - looks like you've all had great times (devoured the photos in the links over the weekend so thanks for posting) and I now look forward to my own alpine adventures. Best invest in a new camera for the occasion.
base jumping hmm... did you see the sad story in the papers this week about the english guy who jumped and then the wind caused his parachute to get caught on some rocks and was left dangling for 3 hours...phoned his pregnant girlfriend to raise the alarm...the Greeks couldn't / didn't get to him...fell to his death
