Re: my non-Porsche picture of the day
I've watched a few take off from near to where I live. I once saw one that's like a ladybird and as they were inflating it with the burner the wind was blowing and the rope that the basket hangs by we're all burning and then some people got in it as their love ones waved them off! I'm sorry but there is no way you would get me in one!

New Year resolution broken already - to STOP living in the past!
My mate keeps reminding me that we (he and I) were born in the first half of the LAST century.......

For all the roadies out there.... be aware!
The next car may be a pre-'73 911
Reminds me (oh no! He's off again!) of when a mate and I lived in adjoining villages. He was into historic rallying with an MGCGT and our 'test' routes in the nearby lanes used to cross regularly. It got so bad at one time that we had to ring to see if the other was out 'testing', so one of us stayed clear until we got the all-clear. A couple of times the call was "All clear, but bring a rope, I'm at........."

It appears to be real:

The 28-year-old driver was apparently drunk and fell asleep when he crashed in the race, said police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez. A photo taken by an official of the city showed cyclists and equipment launched high into the air by the collision.
Rodriguez said Juan Campos was charged with murder Alejandro Alvarez, 37, of Monterrey. Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes in the 34 kilometers (21 miles) race Sunday along a road between Baghdad and Playa Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.
Campos said he is a U.S. citizen living in Brownsville. The USA Consulate could not immediately confirm that.
“We’re looking into the incident in terms of whether American citizens were involved”…

...and to continue the period VW drag racing theme.
Although it's fair to say the term 'racing' is in it's loosest possible sense when applied to my 1.3 Golf and my friends stock Beetle!

i remember bugjam a couple of years ago the loudest cheering for any 1/4 mile run on the saturday was someone driving a boggo 1200 beetle.. took ages to complete the 1/4, and the guy he was "racing against" did it in about 10s or something daft.. no one really cared, it was all about the standard beetle chugging along
