2.7 RS Touring replica on RHD 1973 911 E

The market is awash with RS style early cars and prices and standards vary massively but amongst them all some stand out as being exceptional. This is one such car.

It has been ground-up built from a 1973 RHD 911 E by Porsche specialists. The bodywork was stripped to bare metal, new panels welded in as needed, including the wider rear wings, and then, remarkably, the shell was galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance.

The car was then built-up as an RS Touring replica with its better trimmed and more comfortable cabin and chrome external trims.

RS spec bodywork is fitted including the box front bumper and iconic ducktail engine lid and the whole car finished in Porsche Light Ivory.

Wheels are 7"x15" front and 8"x15" rear Fuchs finished in red with matching RS decals.

Genuine and highly desirable Recaro sports seats were sourced for the interior, along with a 370mm steering wheel and RS spec gauges.

The mechanicals have just been rebuilt by one of the very few names in Porsche circles that gives you absolute confidence of the quality of work : Nick Fulljames at Redtek. The engine is based on 1970s cases, rebuilt to full 2.7 RS spec with correct mechanical fuel injection system and with all of the enhancements Redtek fit to ensure maximum performance and reliability. The gearbox too was overhauled by the same firm and fitted with a limited-slip-differential. Brakes are uprated and suspension is, again, to RS spec. The drivetrain has covered fewer than 2000 miles since the rebuild.

We have been fortunate enough to drive a few genuine RS Tourings over the years and although it's difficult to be certain without driving them back-to-back we'd say this replica drives better than any of them. The power delivery is super-smooth and super-sharp, pace builds effortlessly from low revs and the car rockets forward as the needle climbs up to and beyond 7000rpm. The gearbox changes sweetly, the brakes are rock-solid and wonderfully progressive and the steering has the firm-delicacy that makes early RSs amongst the great driver's cars of all time.

The car manages to feel superbly planted, yet still on its toes and dances up the road, flowing through the corners and sliding with grace when provoked with the throttle. It is truly wonderful.
