Don't worry more pics to cover that to follow. The chap welding these wheels is very, in fact very ,very experienced in this type of welding.

Hi,

We have now finished the first wheel and I am very happy the results. A jig was made so the centres could be re-fitted and the run out checked. Once correctly fitted they have been welded back together.

We are doing the other four now.

The finished wheel.

Fab on the chromes, something true and different too.

Should that pipe be hanging down at the back like that? (oil pipe)

Thanks,

All completly finished now and fitted with new hub caps. The chrome wheels really finish this car off, now just a few small jobs remain (oil line being one of them), and then off to Bob's to go on the rollers.

Hi Alan,

Those wheels look fantastic and look even better on the car but...

Is it a good idea to chrome plate wheels at all. I'm a spring maker by trade and several years ago there was a case where a company produced a "bullworker" (remember those?) which was essentially a chrome plated tension spring length which was bent in use by forcing the two ends together. The problem was that, if the chrome plating chipped, the steel underneath would rust in preference to the chrome resulting in a "hollow" chrome spring shape. There were a few issues with the spring breaking in use and a few injuries occured (and a few lawsuits).

I may be completely off the mark but is the same problem not likely to occur with a chrome plated wheel?
Anthony.
