Well I've been at the garage and been shown a few more interesting things found in the engine:
We had one very early style rocker. I think these are forged, not cast like the later ones and so they don't break if you buzz the engine unlike the later ones which are designed to break. Early is on left, later is on right. Was replaced for a later one.
A slight crack in this. Replaced for a new one:
Incorrect wear on this, probably due to misalignment. Replaced and alignment set.
The garage have cracked on the last few days without me and have fitted the B&P's, heads, cam towers and cams. The engine was timed yesterday and I've spent this afternoon fitting the shroud, alternator, tinwear, exhaust, EFI, electrics, dizzy and spark plug leads. I would have liked to have done more techincal mechanical stuff instead of fitting ancilliaries but the choice was that the garage could do more and it was finished this weekend or I do more and I'd get it back next year. Timescales thus dictated the garage to JFDI. I can always assist Tim on his 2.4Eish engine build when I want oil under my fingernails. I have a really nice kettle to make a fast cuppa and am good with beans on toast...
midway this afternoon:
When I left tonight:
The plan is to fit the engine back in the car tomorrow afternoon and hopefully start it up then. Worst case is that we crank it up on Sunday morning.
At the minute I feel like a child on xmas eve. The anticipation and expectation is quite high. I'll have to have a glass or two of something medecinal, preferably Islay.
More tomorrow.
