eyebrow

Hi I have received a dash eyebrow from Pilgrim and unsurprisingly it fits as badly as everything else concerning the bodywork.

Its just not wide enough. I cannot get my dials under the space it provides. Bit miffed about this cos I wait 4 weeks for it!

Anyway, anyone know of other places to source one? Otherwise anyone any good at woodwork lol!

Woodwork you say ? I may be wrong but I`d hazard a guess that I`ve produced more sawdust than most here on DDK.

Hi Paul, I`m a bit more up to speed with eyebrows now. (but not much. )

Nothing complicated about those but the shape is obviously very important. What`s incorrect about the fiberglass eyebrow you have? If I can use it as a pattern that would be fine but if it`s not right to start with I`ll need a drawing and dimensions

Tell me how the Pilgrim part is wrong. Also are these eyebrows always covered or are they ever polished ?

The one I have is just not wide enough. The three dials I have are large and don't fit within the eyebrow - either I didnt drill the holes close enough (I left only about 3/4 inch between them) or the dials are too big (they are the ones from VintageSpeedsters).

Its about 2 inches too short. Its 15 inches in width (end to end). Its around 5.5 inches high at the top point (in its curve) and 2 and 3/4 inches at its deepest point sticking out from the dash.

These can either be finished in paint or covered in leather. I will probably leather it.

I will take a picture of the one I have. I will need to check the measurement on the car but its in the paint shop so will pop in tomorrow after work for this.

Vintage speedster dials are bigger in size maybe 4mm making them 104mm .porsche dials are 100mm

If you have left 3/4 of a inch between them i cant see you being able to fit them all in , this is what you have found i

the problem is that when taking a job on like this you need all parts of the kit , and you need to fit the dash eyebrow and dash padding up first

Over the yearsi have repaired loads of dashes

i can supply you with a dash eyebrow but i don't think it will help

why dont you take a picture of you dash to show people your problem

or ask oliver356 for help

I will take pic of the dash tomorrow holding the eyebrow over it. Unfortunately if I wanted for Pilgrim to supply parts to progress I'd be waiting for ever lol!!

just checked with my dash eyebrow it measures 15" across, and i've got 3/4" between dails also. So l guess you may have drilled you holes in the wrong location?? Just a thought whats the distance from the bottom of either the left or right dial holes to the bottom of dash. l get around an 1"

Looks like I need 16.5 -17" eyebrow. Dunno whats gone wrong. Sorry for appalling pics tho!!!

More of a uni brow then.

I don`t see a problem with a 17" eyebrow, the limiting factor is really the size of the tree I use, and they`re generally quite big.

I have a plan. Take accurate measurements of the instrument hole positions and draw out a full sized plan showing where the proposed mega brow will sit. As a belt and braces measure, cut a template in card of how you think the curve would sit above the instruments. Then pack the whole lot off to me along with the Pilgrim brow you have and I`ll sharpen my adze.

You have a PM with my address ... or at least you will have when I`ve found the pesky cork screw.

have you found that cork-screw l dont think the width is a problem to much, although it still needs to follow the curvature of the dash. lf the pilgrim dash brow is making contact with the dials then he needs an extra thin dash brow. Bearing in mind its only 3/4" thick, he can't really move the dash brow higher as it will be higher the the dash itself in order to clear the dials?? Not good... So lets sit back and have a few drinks and let see the pictures when he posts...

Rich , between the three of us I reckon we can sort this out. You know what you`re talking about, Paul knows what he wants and I`m listening to the both of you. I understand what you mean about the eyebrow not wanting to project above the dash but going any thinner just ain`t going to look right. I was thinking a less swoopy (technical term) curve to the eyebrow, same height, more length would do it. Failing that prehaps a compound curve would do it.... not ideal but hey.

more length is definately what I need. Girth is fine

The curvature can just be flattened a bit to take in the extra 2 inches.
(please anyone reading this post for the first time - please please read the whole post!!! lol)

With regards to the dash - flat is fine as I can shape the back to fit flush to my dash. I will post the original and as soon as you receive it you will understand . Like a couple on stobbards - they look slightly flatter along the top. I suppose the added length will do this. If you pull apart the fibreglass one a bit, you will see the desired effect.
