Im not convinced that is a very good 912. Its already at over £7k and hasnt hit the reserve. I wouldnt say that is worth much more than £8-9k to be honest.BAN430G wrote:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1968-Porsche-911- ... 255c671a27

I reckon its overpriced already, assuming it is solid the paint colour isn't original as far I'm aware and the non Porsche engine will knock a fair amount off the price. £5-7k max in my opinion, but I wouldn't pay that.
On the engine side of things, whilst not a bad engine its worth checking if it is actually a 914 unit, could quite easily be a 2.0 campervan unit which will not be particularly a powerful engine. It would really benefit from twin carbs or an EFI install to make it remotely interesting to drive. That single carb setup is just gash. The install looks very messy
Paint, loads of overspray in the boot space, the door striker plate on the B post has been painted over.
Interior looks pretty decent though.
If you work colleague is looking for a very good 912 he/she will have to spend well into the teens.

it appears to be a type 4 vw unit, not with different heads etc as on 912E and 914...cheaper on exhaust parts though !
Just FMI, how much would it cost to get a strong, period engine for the car ?

Dreaming of driving a pre-A 356, actually commuting in a Cayman and for the weekend, a 911 'thing', with a Carrera 3 engine ( we think).

Not being picky, just my ignorance, but its states its a 'rare....5 dial model'...surely they were all 5 dial in this year ? My 66 was a 3 dial...
When did they change from 3 to 5... 68 ?

sunroof model, still running injection, from Max at Revival. Must have been in the UK for at leat 10 years, as I found a reference to it in an auction in 2001 (I think)

This car been for sale for quite a while, and at the moment good 912's seem to be getting snapped up, so maybe that says something (the lack of correct engine is going to be a big problem of course),
its £14k on the Loves of Chester website.

and a period engine has just sold for almost £2.5k on ebay:

If you can get in for 7-8k, would seem 'fair' IMO...if you don't mind the lack of originality...with engine and fitting taking it to over 10k...
..is the colour an original Porsche colour ?
