2.4E - what this worth?

Like I said in my earlier post, the prices I referred to relate to cars that are fully restored, ie all parts restored to a high standard, every nut and bolt. The actual costs to restore an early car does not relate to the model. For example the cost to fully restore (to the same standard) a 2.4T is not much different than a 2.4S, with any cost differences relating to MFI (for UK cars) and additional oil cooling parts.

These price ranges will buy cars with minor to serious issues. If you want a car that needs no work, drives perfectly, has perfect paint etc. etc (not necessarily restored) you will be paying £5k - £15K beyond.

Interesting discussion which has wandered at bit onto other models, but that's good as it gives a more rounded perspective.

I've been looking through old adverts and looking at what's on the web at the moment and I cannot find an advert for a RHD 2.4E to judge the merits of the prices being discussed. They seem few and far between.

I know you have sold a few in the past Nick. Do you think there are customers out there for restored examples at the moment?

There are always customers out there, but more often than not they find me rather me finding them, so it's a bit of a lottery. DDKers are not your typical high end buyer (with a couple of notable exceprions). There may be more interest in the car as it is, rather than as a restored item. Now if it was LHD........

The market for RHD is realistically right here in Blighty ? or do they go to Oz, South Africa etc. To answer my own question, I remember Jamie's car going to South Africa, and that was a nice car.

Ian - I guess it will also depend on who does the work. Whilst a DIY is cheaper than the likes of a Nick or Alan, it doesn't have the same provenance to the buyer - discuss

Offer them £10K, pay £30K to the specialist and still be inside the values offered up here

I have an obsessive buying/hunting condition, spend most of my life searching the world for cars and I don't see these prices anywhere in the world today for cars that actually sell.

Are you not allowed to disagree or discuss car prices on a thread that asked peoples opions on car prices then, over here then Paul??

Theres nothing pessimistic in it - just opinion on what I see? As always happy to be proved wrong i just don't see these prices that people hoped for 18 months ago. Market is still strong for very good, very original cars but its not stratospheric nor is it as strong as it was imho.

Sorry I'll keep my opinions to myself from now on and we can all be happy in the knowledge that our cars are worth an absolute fortune

hey I'm unemployed - its only because i have the values of my cars written down on a piece of paper that i'm certain they are worth, honest, must be surely, god i hope so.....that i sleep at all!!!!

I do know of a RHD 72S that changed hands for over £60k very recently, it then had quite a few £1000s spent on it to bring it up to a nice, but unrestored condition. Many cars change hands without even coming on the market so we never quite know what money they change hands for, but Ss are definitely fetching this kind of money, and several RHD Ts have been over £30K, one has cost it's new owner around £40K.

I just saw that this morning and though that it fitted this discussion rather well.

£25K (asking price note) plus shipping and VAT gets it here for say £31K and as a LHD car it has the Euro market open to it, but it is a T.

They are also selling a 'nice' 73S at £40K which is close to £50K here.

So, are RHD or LHD cars more valuable at the moment ?
