Drive shaft question

Post by 356_outlaw »

Anyone know the name and size of the tool needed to undo the driveshaft CV bolts. Mine are full of crap, but want to order the tool prior to cleaning them... are they 6 or 12 spline or something else?

You need a 12 spline 8mm tool for 914 splined bolts (though some might have straight 8mm allen heads if they have been replaced with non OE ones).

I have always used the one from my Beetle 1303,
I have no smiles I shed no tears,
In an eternity of pain I have no peers.

Drive Shaft Question

I bought mine from the local snap-on van, as already mentioned I had a mix of the OE & Allen headed bolts. Be careful to use the correct tool or else you can round off the OE ones..... It's worth replacing any damaged ones.

Yep.
I managed to round off the gearlinkage 'cone screw' which has a hex head using the correct tool, so not looking forward to getting these buggers out. Seems vw had a batch of chocolate fixings which they saved up especially for my car
