is it an optical illusion or is the principal difference between the RSR / Turbo and the ST rear wings the fact that the leading lower edge sticks out more on the RSR/Turbo style
that last picture from Stretch seems to highlight the fact
?

Looking at pictures of Martini rsr in museum, are the torsion bar holes correct as they are similar to what the ones on my car look like, which I thought were incorrect (see photo). Why does there seem to be such a variation with these arches

Incidentally, the Prussian Blue Supersport is mine! I bought it in October. I'm planning to backdate it to look like a 2.8 RSR but I prefer the look of the ST - anybody got any ideas as to whether this is do-able or not!?jtparr wrote:ok, as you asked.......
and forgive me if I get the odd one wrong....![]()
pre 69 cars
ST
various, so here's just two
69-73 cars
RSR
(don't know if all of these are true or true copies as turbo arches sometimes used for replicas, aplogies to the owners if they are all real...)
72/73 RS cars
rear arch flat face tapers from c.25mm at top to c.10mm at ends
74/75 2.7 Carrera and 3.0 Carrera
arch bulge same as RS but flat face does not vary as much with c.20mm at top and c.15mm at ends (later SC and 3.2 cars were slightly different again I beleive, with constant width of flat face)
3.0 RSR
3.2 supersport/later turbos
so if there's anyway of finding out the true profiles and drawings, I'd be interested to generate a CAD comparison section and also modelling them in 3D for a project
regards
jonathan

A bit of a thread hijack, so let's not loiter here. A Supersport could be narrowed to the ST look, but you have to be very careful with rim widths and tyre clearance as the Turbo suspension pushes the hubs further out to fill the arches with 7" and 8" rims. The front RSR arch is actually virtually the same as the 2.5ST arch.Incidentally, the Prussian Blue Supersport is mine! I bought it in October. I'm planning to backdate it to look like a 2.8 RSR but I prefer the look of the ST - anybody got any ideas as to whether this is do-able or not!?

Going in the opposite direction of wide rear arches and looking at the 911R shape.
Could either an impact bumper 2.7 or a pre-73 E or T or maybe even a 912 be used as a donor to get the correct shape/profile?
Also does anyone make Carrera RS rear arch profiles in either steel or fibreglass to convert a car to this shape?

I've modified a '72 rear wings into 'R' alikes, using the U.S. fibreglass reps as a guide for some patterns.
The LWB narrow bodied cars are a very good starting point, and essentially you can keep a most of the original metal, add in a widening strip, and then flatten out the lower leading portion a little, to give that widened SWB wing look. Finally the arches are rolled, and the rear bumpers modified to blend with the new arch profile.
I'll have a chat with the owner, as I'm pretty sure he was keen to keep this car under wraps until it's full reveal. However, if he is agreeable, I'll post up some pics.
