Hi, I have a 39,000 mile 914 that I'm about to restore long term-

now my Geography is a llittle (ok a lot) ropey by i think Cobham is within a reasonable distance to you.? there will be many DDKers there. provided they are fed and watered they are usually pretty friendly.

Hi Mark - there are a few DDKers around your neck of the woods with a mix of '14's, 12's and 11's and 356's. Few replicas too. I'm sure they'll out themselves in due course. As Helen says, Fairmile in Cobham (3rd Weds of the month) might be worth popping to on a nice evening

Hi, thanks for the Fairmile Barbecue invite- I remember going there
before about 6 years ago when I had a 911T 72. I think that was
with the PC GB.
My 914 is a 1974, with 39000 miles due to a guy keeping it in his garage
for 30 years! Trouble is he left it outside for 4 years before I bought
it and lived in the warm climate that is the Scottish Highlands
So I've taken the sill covers off and see that it needs a new clam sill o/s
and the suspension mount between the outer to inner fixings is corroded.
Major job I guess but the rest of the car is rust free. Whats the chances
of the engine not being seized? Pics to follow -I'll try and put them on the general 914 forum not the intro...

I live near Bracknell and have a '74 2:0 litre red 914 that is also in need of some serious welding work. I thought I had someone to do it a year ago but for a variety of reasons they ended up not being able to take on the work. As I had just moved house to undertake a major house project I have not been able to get sorted since. Anyway the house is now under control and so my thoughts have returned to the 914. I have one local restorer but he has never worked on 914's and although apparently very good will only qoute a day rate which makes it a risky way to get the work done. Just been given another possible contact so we'll see.
I've also flirted with the idea of finding a solid but engineless 914 and combining with my car to produce one finished article but each time I investigate the costs don't stack up. So welding it is. My car has the usual "hell hole" problems on the o/s rear and through the o/s heater channel. Other than that she is ok, not concours but ok. I am determined to get her road worthy and all the set backs will just make it all the sweeter when done. Hope your project goes smoothly.

Just remembered that when I bought my 914 and found the rust
that was hidden I turned to DDK for some inspiration. Anyway, I saw your
post from a few years ago about getting down about the rust and that you were local to me, also looking for a welder! Coincidence, but I thought
you'd probably sold the car since the posting.
I need the suspension mounting welded/replaced and the o/s sill replacing- rest of the car is solid but I too had doubts about whether a welder could do this at my home. My plan of attact is probably to strip
the car down and do everything but the welding on that side in the hope that someone will appear in time to take the welding on. I've got another 914 that I'm stripping for parts too- if you want to pop over for a chat and to compare rust pm me.
