solex carb trouble

Post by nickT »

I have an annoying flat spot under acceleration, like the car is getting bogged down, it only happens at lower revs .
Has anyone had a similar problem and cured it,
What is a good replacement for the solexs ? Weber's ?
I'm guessing it's the carbs but it might be something else.

Otherwise i'm really enjoying the 912.
Nick.

would defo recommend persevering with the Solexes - when they are right, you shouldn't have any problem with them.

the difference after having them rebuilt was chalk and cheese

Nick,

I had the same problem, only mine was with Webers. It turned out to be the idle jets, which weren't quite large enough - just 0.05mm too small in the end. Like you said it could be the accelerator pump jets, but once you're off and running it's usually down to the idle jets and then mains once your above 2500rpm.

It's amazing how such a small adjustment can make such a dramatic effect with a carburettor

Obviously I am talking about Webers in this instance, and as I don't have any knowledge of Solexes you can feel free to take my advice with a sizeable pinch of salt!

Best of luck.

I had a bit of success today, I retarded the timing a bit, reset the idle screws ( jets ) and tickover , I also made sure the accelerator pump jets squirted fuel straight down the chokes and not hit the side wall.
All this improved the problem by about 70 % and makes the car alot more driveable. I'm sure there is more to come.

Nick.
