Small dent removal

Post by defianty »

Has anyone used one of those companies that come out to you and remove small dents / car park door dings etc?

The accountant at work whilst trying to avoid a cardboard box reversed into my drivers door on my Alfa yesterday. It's only now in the light that I can see it's made a very light groove along the door, about eight inches long. I'd have thought it could be corrected fairly easily by someone with the right knowledge.

Anyone got any experience of this? Any recommedations?

Cheers

Thay can reduce many a dent to almost nothing but in some cases they can only do a small amount..due to double skins etc

He doesn't do it himself but runs a company that does it and has agents nationwide - can't remember the name of the company though.

Yes, he was into importing cars etc. and owned some lovely ones. You'll often see adverts in only Porsche Worlds.

When I met him a few years ago he did still have a Carrera Speedster 4 Cam, matching numbers etc. that he was restoring!

I had a small dent removed from the roof of my black car by one of the 'paintless dent removal' guys.

I couldn't believe the results after he'd finished - no sign that the dent had ever been there - & it was in the worst possible place (for being immediately visible) on the worst possible colour (black).

Fantastic thing was the price - £80 !

The guy I used was based in Swansea though.

Thanks Helen, I'll chase that up. Hopefully he's not to far away as I'm in Essex too.

Thanks for your input everyone, just need to fine a replacement door mirror now. I'm not to keen on the cellotape that's holding mine on at the moment

A word of caution.
Dent removals close to curves or edges seem difficult or impossible to remove. I am still not sure that even the easier ones dont come back to haunt you at a later date !
I bought a used V6 Alfa 164 about 8 years ago. The car looked new and the body was faultless. After 6 months very small dings appeared on the passenger doors. After a year they got slightly bigger. As my car is never parked in a position to be hit on the passenger side It seemed possible that previously repaired prangs were re appearing. The drivers side was fine.
Not being a qualified metallurgist I cant tell you why but maybe the metal has an elastic limit and if its broken it returns back to its original broken state ??
If the paint is old or has been resprayed the dent removal guys cannot always guarantee that the paint won't come off.
It might be worth taking close up pics before the dent removal and more pics 6 months later.

Probably as likely that it had been painted, with some small repairs that then sank a little?

Thanks for the further advice guys. I do believe that the small dent I have will come out with little fuss. I've not done anything about it yet as I'm waiting for a few clear days that aren't wet. Hopefully should be sorted next week. I'll post pics of the results.

Once they are out thats it they don't come back, Alfas are notorius for denting easily (usually along the swage 6" from the bottom of the door.
Edges normally cant be done but its always worth a look curves are no problem
