I just checked Britanny Ferries for the return Portsmouth-Caen route:

Roughly the same days/times as last year:

Wed night (23.45) ferry on the 10th with a cabin
Monday afternoon (17.15) ferry on the 14th with a reclining seat

£255

Yep, that's me. I've booked.
Out overnight Wed 9th. The same timings and driving arrangement as last year.
Nice kip on the way out. Breakfast in France. Easy drive down. Lovely.

just tried to book, all cabins now gone on the outbound crossing!

For those intending to join us on the Brittany Ferries Portsmouth – Caen 2345, then when you book online you need to specify the 4 berth outside cabin. I have just spoken to BF and there are plenty available at the moment.

Spent a bit of last night looking at maps (Paul will confirm my uncanny accuracy in the art of map-reading

I'm wondering (a bit belatedly I know), whether we're going to be cutting it fine with regard to grabbing what will be a pretty large camping pitch. As it stands, it looks as though most (all) of the campers are on the Dover ferry, which puts us quite a way up the country fairly well on in the day.

Therefore, I'm going to swap over onto the Brittany Ferries trip with the other party, and I believe Gav. P. is doing likewise. Nevertheless, it might be an idea to have a couple more to help save a pitch?

Any thoughts joining a pitch-grabbing, advance party?

Last year we arrived at around 3 - 4 pm? Site was getting busy but not too bad. Those getting the Portsmouth Caen crossing could be at Lemans just after lunch if they wanted ?

A bit of 'crime scene' tape and poles & a camping area could be pegged out early?

On-line again this morning, Brittany Ferries showing no cabins available, spoke on them on 0870 9076103 and after a bit of messing finally got the booking, 4 berth cabin out, seat back.
So Portsmouth - Caen return, now booked

Mark, just been doing some calculations, & that one seems quite good considering fuel savings in France. Calais to LeMans & back will cost me approx £80 more in fuel than going Le Havre- LeMans & back.

The Caen is too expensive for me, but Le HAvre might be an option thnking about it.

Anyway as I said earlier, once I get all teh details from all ferry companies I'll start new threads fro each route then everyone can make their own descisions

Just the sort of thing I was thinking: I'd imagine that if we're there just after lunchtime, we'll have a good chance of getting something organised.

I've just booked the Portsmouth - Caen route, thought it was a very civilised way of doing it last year and all timings seemed to work fine, apart from the Porsche guy not being there with our tix

I remember there was a pitch opposite us which was taped off until the Sat morning?

It appears that all the 5 day fares have now gone (even if you ring up), so this is now £340 if you want a cabin on the outbound route and there were only 38 of those left when I called.

Still having some tight Yorkshireman in me, I'm going to have a further think before booking... and by then there'll probably be no cabins at any price
