Where's the red-line for a 2.2S?

Where's the red-line for a 2.2S?

Hi,

This is my first post and I wonder if someone could help me understand where the red line on the tacho should be for a 2.2s?

My car has been in storage for a couple of years and I have just got it back on the road and have a sneaky suspicion that the tacho might have been grafted during that time.

I thought I remembered the red line being at 7300, but it currently sits at 6300 although the car revs freely to 7300 if needed.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Yes, the redline for any '66-'73 S should be 7300rpm.

T models' tachos were redlined at 6300rpm

E models' tachos were redlined at 6800rpm.

Fantastic, many thanks. Now I know I wasn't going mad and will be firmly asking "can I have my tacho back please mister"

Just to butt in on this thread...hope you don't mind.

I have a 912 and it is now 1800. Will the 'red line' change with the bigger engine size?

Depends on the spec of the engine.

Anything else different apart from the barrels & pistons ?

Hello, Louis.

To be honest the four pots do not last at all well if revved..and bigger pots do increase thermal stress and often reciprocating weight.

So I'd advise sticking weoll within the rev limit as much as poss..
