Apart from the lenses, are there any differences between RHD and LHD H1 headlights?

Thanks.

It might be me ...

I can't answer with complete certainty though - in spite of the fact that I've had many sets (including NOS) of both LHD & RHD H1's, I've never compared the internals that closely.

However, I have a feeling that there are differences - apart from the lenses - for example I think the lower reflector shape is a 'mirror image'.

Here is a piccy of LHD H1's. Anyone have real RHD ones and post a pic here to see if the lower reflectors are different?

Here's an exposed H1 RHD reflector.

Hi Dave,

Thanks. Yeah, same as LHD but are you 100% certain that yours are real RHD?

Ian

My RHD H1's are definitely original (it was the left hand ones that I didn't know the history on) and I can confirm the lower reflector is identical to the ones in the LHD ones shown above i.e. thinner section on the right as you look at the light.

Ian,

2 sets came with My LHD car. The set on the car were sold to the states.

The pair in the link were bought by the guy in the UK, to swap them over.

The seller probably would'nt sell the RHD lenses on there own.

These are off an AFN imported UK RHD car. Can't be 100% certain they have never been replaced not knowing the car from new but not aware they have ever been changed and the lenses (BOSCH) are RHD. You can see the reflector is the same as your LHD picture.

Ian.

Indeed!
I'm still looking for a pair of RHD lenses (used or new). Let me know if you've got some for sale. Thanks

All, I installed H1s (LHD) back in Chicago in the late 1970s. Once the car got here, my pal who serviced the car flattened the reflector and the lense is now a RHD H4. The car passes the MOT.

I just got a copy of latest US Excellence mag (May issue) and on page 86 there's a piccy of a LHD car with H1's (I don't have a scanner, sorry), which shows the reflectors very, very clearly. The 'cut' on the right side of the reflector as you look at it, is for lining up with the triangle (the sloping bit) on the lens. It lines up perfectly. So, it is very strange that there were no handed reflectors for RHD. Maybe Porsche/Bosch thought there weren't enough RHD cars to bother.
