DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker

Hi folks

Just wanted to sing the praises of Mr Dean Polopolus, Steve at Jaz and Bruce of Sportwagen, although I can't sing, so I shall type instead.

I used to have a MP&P 2 litre twin plug in my car, which was excellent. Except the gear box shift mechanism, which was like cracking knuckles. So rather than fix it I went down the stupid expensive route of having a 2.5 litre Polo motor and 901 5 speed box built.

And I am jolly glad I did, the car is a joy to drive, goes like stink or indeed just pootles along at low RPM. And the gear change is all fixed, whoop whoop! Some people might think that the drum brakes would be a little overwhelmed, however I can assure you that I am now one of those too.

If you're thinking of doing something similar, I'd recommend buying the kit from Dean, having Steve build it along with the gear box and Bruce fit the oil lines and oil tank.

I reckon a nicely sorted 356 is the perfect classic sports car, beating everything else of it's era into a cocked hat.

But then it looks like what you've done here is improve on perfection, the car looks beautiful ! Please post up some video of the engine running/reving.., I know it won't do it justice but I'd love to hear it anyway.

Also, I'm interested to hear if the car feels any different with what I presume is a bit more weight in the back... and do you plan disc brakes ?

Very nice indeed. Can you access the crank pulley? I have seen some with 911 motors that had a 'porthole' under the number plate.

The engine is only 5kg heavier than a stocker, so I cannot imagine it would really be noticeable. Perhaps I should look at making some disc brakes, we'll see.

A video?? Not sure how to or where to post such a thing, being a bit of a Ludite. I shall try over the next few weeks.
