So here's another question that comes to mind (for my 69 T). Do S spec brakes have bigger pistons than the non-S spec? and would they normally be paired with a bigger diameter master cylinder?
Cheers

Re: Favourite brake pads
This might answer your questions..
Way way back I fitted A type callipers as I fitted Bilstein front struts.
The A type pads were larger area than the front M callipers pads, I kept the rears original M spec, far smaller pads.
I installed a new stock diameter master cylinder at the same time having re sealed all the callipers etc
Aeroquip flex hoses fitted, new discs too, and a huge bleed action with the wife doing the pedal work.
At that time I installed new Textar pads all round and was dissapointed with the leg effort to stop the car and hence the succession of different pads tried until I fitted Carbone pads recently discussed.
Iirc the S callipers pads are the same area as the A callipers use, so S callipers, better pads all round, stock T 'M' spec rear callipers, fresh discs and stock master will work, esp with Carbone pads.
Beyond this lot you venture to custom callipers etc.

.
Most of the 911's I've owned have been modified (including, typically, uprated engines, brakes, suspension, etc) but I've driven most standard early models as well &, in my experience, in every case the standard brake set-up (providing it was well maintained/working correctly) for each particular variant was more than adequate for road use...
